College football coaches across the country are starting to key in on a South Carolina recruiting gem ACC and SEC schools have been showing interest in for a while now, Class of 2020 cornerback Christian Miller. The 5-11, 169-pound, defender showed out as a sophomore for Hilton Head High School (SC) coming up with 45 tackles, nine passes broken up, and three picks. He followed that up in 2018 with an estimated stat line of 50 stops, eight passes defended, and one interception. Offers have come in from South Florida, Tabor, and Hamline and as I found out mid-interview from Colorado State and after the interview South Alabama.

In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with the three-star recruit to see how his season played out and to learn more about his recruiting.

Interview

Christian, how did the 2018 season go for you personally?

“It went well. Our team success was not as we planned, but I feel like I had a real solid year.”

Where all did you line up on the field during your junior year?

“I played everything – corner, kick returner, and I caught a pass on a fake punt. Next year I am planning to start at receiver.”

Nice. As a defensive back, what were some of the schemes you ran with the Seahawks in 2018?

“We ran a lot of man, a lot of Cover 3 and Cover 2, and coach sent me in on a couple of corner blitzes. What we ran depended on the team we played.”

You showed a lot of route recognition and discipline sticking with your man this season, which other areas of your game improved the most this season?

“I improved upon knowing receivers’ tendencies, knowing what they will do before they do it. My speed improved. I feel like I can compete with any elite receiver because my speed lets me adjust. My tackling has improved a substantial amount over last year. The difference between last year and this year, a lot of teams did not target me much this year. Teams seemed scared to throw it my way.”

That’s respect. Is there an area or two of your game you plan on lasering in on this offseason in preparation for your senior year?

“Definitely. Some areas I would like to improve on is my hands, my press release, and my jam technique.”

What are college coaches telling you that they like about your game?

“They love my film as a whole. They say I break on the ball well, that I am a physical corner, and they like my speed and agility.”

You have the three offers, which schools are showing interest?

“I am receiving interest from Wake Forest, South Carolina, Georgia Southern, Kentucky, Clemson, Northwestern, East Carolina, and Georgia State. I received an offer from Colorado State tonight.”

Wow. Congratulations. How did they extend offer you?

“When I got out of school, their coach called speaking to my dad and I. He thinks I am a baller, they decided to offer me.”

Very cool. Did you take any unofficial visits during the season?

“I’ve been to Georgia Tech, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, and South Carolina.”

Just picking a couple, how did the South Carolina visit go?

“It was my favorite visit. Knowing I have a brother that goes there already, I felt like it was a great place to be for me. When we were at the game, it felt like home.”

How did Clemson go?

“I like Clemson as well. The atmosphere there is amazing. The coaches love me. You can tell that Clemson has a championship vibe there.”

Christian, always great catching up with you. Thanks for your time today and good luck with your offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
