The talents of Class of 2021 cornerback Zamajay Duncan have been well-known within one of the nation’s toughest high school football conferences, the Trinity League, as a member of JSerra Catholic but now foes of Huntington Beach High School are about to learn about Duncan as a defensive back and as a receiver. With the transfer, the 5-10, 180-pound, athlete will be able to further showcase his all-around talents pushing his three-star status forward while adding to his six scholarship offers.

In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with Duncan for an overview on his spring workouts and an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

Zamajay, we spoke after your junior season covering all that you were doing on the field then. Since the season ended, what have you been working on with your game as a corner?

“Since then I have been working on my footwork, my ball skills, and being able to stay on the receiver’s hip in coverage.”

Playing for Huntington Beach, the coaches are going to also showcase you at receiver. How have you been preparing this spring for that role?

“We bought a JUGG machine to make sure my hands are right. I have been working on my routes, speed, and plays this spring.”

How have you seen your talents as a receiver grow over the last couple of months as a receiver?

“My talent has grown tremendously. One big thing, I am adjusting my body with the ball in the air better now.”

Getting more time training as a receiver, how is that helping you with the mental part of your game as a defensive back?

“That’s a great question. The routes, knowing the route tree, that reflects to me as a corner. I know when they are going to break. How they line up, top of the numbers, I know if it will be a slant or a fade.”

During the spring months, what has been your daily strength workout routine?

“Working out is an everyday thing for me. I work out Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with a trainer doing full body and agility training. My trainer has a weight room; we work on my bench press, hang cleans, squats, and getting stronger overall.”

What have you been doing on a daily basis as part of your conditioning and speed training?

“Right now, I am doing speed ladders, working on my 40, and my get off from both positions.”

Which schools are showing interest as we head into the summer?

“New Mexico and Cal – they are showing a lot of interest.”

How many offers are you holding?

“Six.”

Which program was the last to offer?

“I just got Arizona.”

Duncan’s Offer Sheet: Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Oklahoma, Utah, and Washington State

If the camp circuit among the college programs happen this summer, are there any you may attend?

“I want to go to Boise State, Washington State, and Oregon.”

Are there any visits you may take this summer or fall, on official or unofficial visits?

“I want to check out a few places this summer, Nebraska for sure, Boise State and Arizona too.”

Zamajay, it is always great catching up with you. I appreciate your time.

“Thank you.”
