All Class of 2021 high school football recruits are about to take that next big step forward from underclassmen to senior leaders. Any and all aspects of their respective game has to be polished up during the offseason to showcase at camps and in preparation for their senior campaigns to help take their teams to new heights and to secure desired scholarship offers; this holds true even for the highly recruited like Sierra Vista (CA) offensive lineman Anthony Rosas. Rosas is holding 12 offers, but the 6-4, 301-pound, tackle is putting in all the extra work possible from school sanctioned workouts, weekend linemen camps, and national camps getting time in at an Under Armour All-American Camp and at a Rivals camp on Sunday to prepare for the 2020 season.
After competing at the Rivals camp, Rosas and I caught up for an update on his performance with a look into his busy recruiting process.

Interview
Anthony, how are the offseason workouts coming along?
“They are going way better. My max is three plates for bench. I am working with four plates and 25 on back squat and my deadlift is four plates and 35. Another thing we are doing, exploding into a two-man sled. We are driving it, it clicks, and we go at it for another 20 yards. That is helping us get our lower bodies ready for driving defenders for the pancake. We are doing a lot of basic stuff, but it is good work.”
You’ve competed at a few camps now already this offseason, what are some of the tips and techniques you’ve been picking up from the outside coaches at the camps?
“The techniques they told me – one of them is don’t keep my hands at the same level. I have to keep one higher than the other. You will attack with one arm first and the other comes in to help out.”
All the camps put the big dogs in the trenches through one-on-ones, how is your game improving via the camps colliding with all the top talent in the region at the camps?
“To be honest, my talent is improving a lot. At the Under Armour Camp, I won two and lost two. At today’s camp, I was 7 for 8. I only lost one rep. My coaches and the camp coaches, they are helping all of it to come together in the best way possible for me.”
As you just mentioned, the Rivals camp was today (Sunday), how did this camp go overall for you?
“Before the first rep, I was nervous. But I got a pancake. Then I knew I could do this. On the second rep, I got the pancake but I held a little All the rest of my reps were clean blocks. The first one can define what you do at the camp.”
On the one that you lost, what did you learn from that loss that will make you better?
“The way I thought of it, I have to stop leading with my head. The defender, he had caught on to what I was doing. I would step at him, he leaned forward and then he stepped back, smacked my hands and got me.”
Which upcoming camps are you planning on attending?
“Niko Trenches and The Opening Regional; that’s it for now.”
Always want to catch-up on your recruiting. Which schools are showing interest now?
“Cal, UCLA, USC, Stanford, LSU, Clemson, Mississippi State, Michigan State, Michigan, and Oregon State.”
What is the offer total up to now?
“I have 12 offers.”
Rosas’ Offer Sheet (12): Arizona State, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Kansas, Maryland, Miami, Penn State, Washington State, William & Mary and Yale
Last we spoke you were fresh off a visit to Colorado; do you have any planned visits coming up?
“Yes. I plan on visiting Miami, Florida, and Florida State this spring. But it all depends on the pricing. I want to visit as many schools as I can. I am also thinking about visiting Yale, Washington State, and Penn State.”
As recruiting heats up, have you started thinking about when you might commit?
“Around mid-season I will drop my Top 10. I plan on committing for the early signing period, but if I get invited to an All-American Game, I will commit there.”
Anthony, congratulations on showing out at the Rivals camp today. Good luck with all your upcoming visits.
“Thank you.”
