Each year there is a slugfest on the gridiron in the Trinity League that spills out into the Southern Section High School Football Playoffs that has California and national championship implications, and that battle is between St. John Bosco and Mater Dei. During the 2019 season, the squads split their two head-to-head matchups with Bosco winning in the tournament on their way to a No. 1 national ranking. For the Monarchs to return to their state and back-to-back national championship form of 2017-18, they will need leading rusher Marceese Yetts to set the pace out of the backfield. The 5-9, 165-pound, all-purpose back picked up 578 yards on 68 totes with five scores and brought in 12 passes for 121 yards on offense. The 4.0 40-yard speed and elusiveness of the three-star recruit were also utilized on special teams taking back 11 punts for 221 yards and three kicks for 47 more.
In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with the speedster for an update on his recruiting and spring workouts.

Interview
Marceese, how have your offseason workouts been going?
“This offseason I have been working out from my house. I got back on the field about two or three weeks ago, I’ve been doing what I can from home this spring.”
To improve your speed and agility, what workouts have you been doing to become a more explosive back for the Monarchs in 2020?
“Since I was not able to go out for a while, and I wasn’t able to get to a park, I focused on school. I do have a treadmill at home. I get on there a couple times a week and I am lifting weights but not with heavy weights, doing curls and squats at high reps.”
You mentioned a couple of things, drilling deeper, what are some of the workouts you’ve been doing to push your physical strength to that next level?
“For my upper body I am doing push-ups, curls, and sometimes I do the upside-down push-ups with my legs up on the wall. For legs, I am on the treadmill and doing squats.”
When does the team start practicing together, and how are they bringing you guys in based on the guidelines by the state?
“As of right now, we are supposed to be going back sometime next week, maybe the 15th. We have been given no additional information on that yet. They are still trying to make sure it will happen.”
Silly question of the day, but are you pumped that you are about to be back on the field and in the weight room with your teammates?
“Yes. Being on the field with my teammates, there is a different level of excitement. I am ready to be around the people I am used to being around every day.”
Let’s get a recruiting update. Which schools are reaching out showing interest?
“Air Force, Penn, and Yale, and Liberty, Oregon State, and Cal.”
How many offers have been given to you?
“Six.”
Yetts’ Offer Sheet: Air Force, Brigham Young, Howard, Kansas, Syracuse, and Yale
Once the campuses open up, are there any planned trips on your calendar?
“Right now, I have not figured that out yet. I had visits set before the lockdown, but I have not decided yet where I will go once we can start taking visits again.”
Last question for you. What goals have you set for yourself over the summer months before the season begins?
“My goals, I plan to get up to at least 175 pounds and I want to get faster before next season. I am getting back out there for speed training to make it happen.”
Marceese, thanks for your time today and good luck with your personal and team workouts this summer.
“Thank you.”
