When word gets out on how well constructed a cornerback’s island is, the good and the bad thing is, no quarterback wants to visit it. During the 2019 season, Omarion Dickens made lunch meat out of opposing Arkansas offenses compiling 63 tackles with a tackle for a loss, a pick, and four passes broken up. Teams are still unwilling to test the 6-1, 180-pound, three-star Prescott corner during his junior run. The stats are down as the respect increases with 10 stops, two passes broken up, and a tackle for a loss.

With an offer in his back pocket from Kansas and interest piling up from Arkansas, Yale, Louisville, North Texas, and Ole Miss, Dickens checked in at the RNG Lab for a quick update.

Interview

Omarion, when we last spoke the Curley Wolves had won their first two games of the season. You guys are now 7-0 and absolutely laying it on opposing 3A teams. What’s clicking for you guys overall for all the big wins?

Big plays. If another team makes a big play, we can shift the momentum by making a big play on our side of the ball.

In the era of the Spread offense, it is amazing to see what you guys are doing on defense. For the season, the defense is only allowing 11 points per game with 80 total points scored through the first seven. Let’s update everyone, what front are you guys running and what are some of the coverages being executed?

Mainly a 3-4, but we’ve been changing it up trying to give teams a lot to worry about. In the secondary, we are running a Cover 2, 3, man, everything really.

For you personally, how has the season gone at corner?

It has been going alright. I am not getting tested much. I am trying to make big plays to prove myself.

I always want to know, where are you seeing the improvements in your skills on the field?

Patience and eye discipline.

What are you constantly working on in practice to keep pushing your game forward?

Footwork, my back pedal, and eye discipline.

With college football now in full swing as of this week at the FBS level, are you watching any college defensive backs play to study their technique. If so, who are you watching and what tips are you picking up?

There is a DB for Kansas, he had a big game last game. When I watch college players, I am trying to see the difference between me and him, and the things he does better to help my game.

After taking down Jessieville 63-12, the Curley Wolves have the last game of the season set against Malvern’s Glen Rose. The Beavers are 8-1, 6-0 in conference action. This is for the top seed in your bracket. How hyped are you for this meeting?

Yes, sir. Oh, extremely pumped, we are not trying to get ahead of ourselves, but we’ve been waiting for this. This is for the No. 1 seed. We plan on dominating them.

Their offense has been prolific and their defense has also been shutting teams down. What kind of game are you expecting from them on Friday?

On Friday, I expect them to be physical, especially against us. It will be a tough game for all four quarters.

Are you doing anything differently on the field for this game?

Yes, sir. I am playing offense.

Receiver?

Yes, sir.

Are you excited about the opportunity to showcase your skills on offense in this one?

Yes, sir. I get to show my skills on the other side of the ball. I am pumped.

Omarion, it was great getting updated on your season so far. Wishing you and the team success until we talk again.

Thank you, sir.
