The 2021 season for Quincy Briggs will be an all-out affair on the field. The Class of 2022 athlete will be stretched beyond playing corner and receiver for Memphis Central adding quarterback, running back, and safety to his list of regular duties. With track speed to burn, Briggs will be ready. The focus on a Tennessee state championship will be there with the Warriors after essentially putting an end to his recruiting process on April 26 with a verbal commitment to the Yale Bulldogs.

Interview

Quincy, when we last spoke you were preparing for a senior season playing quarterback, receiver, running back, corner and safety. Are all those options still in play for you this fall?

Yes, sir.

Of all the positions, which will be your primary on both sides of the ball?

Safety on defense and wide receiver on offense.

Lumping all of offense in together, what are you working on from a fundamentals standpoint?

My endurance. My coaches are preaching about going both ways and being the heart of the team. Conditioning is important. We are technically sound.

How are you improving upon your technique and coverage on defense?

I do the same DB drills with my 7v7 coach. He’s getting me ready for the season.

Since track season wrapped up, what have you been doing to keep pushing that part of your athleticism to the next level?

I go to track and football practice every day. We go 6 to 8:00 in football and 4 to 6:00 in track.

Putting in double time.

Yes, sir.

What is the best track time you’ve put down this season?

My best in the 400 is a 49.3. I should drop that next time I run.

Have you been to any college camps this summer?

I went to Vanderbilt and Memphis twice.

Going there twice, how did the Memphis camps go?

It was good. The older you get, the more the game slows down. I didn’t participate in any of the camps.

I got ya. Do you have any upcoming camps on the schedule?

Yes, I am going to a TSU camp (Tennessee State Univ.) camp. With track, I have shut it down until July.

Back on April 26, you verbally committed to the Yale Bulldogs. Since then, how have you work to build that bond with the coaches on the staff?

They are really cool. One of their coaches, Coach (Mathieu) Araujo, their DB coach, we talk every day or every other day. Their other coaches check on me, I shoot them back with a text. They are wanting me up there for an unofficial before my official.

At which position did they recruit you to play?

DB, at corner.

How do the coaches see you fitting into their scheme?

Utilizing my speed, as a cover corner.

You mentioned they wanted you up there before your official, when might you visit the campus?

I am supposed to go up there at the end of this month.

Have you set your official with Yale yet?

No, not yet.

Quincy, it was great catching up with you today. Wishing you success with the rest of your track season and the upcoming visit to New Haven.

Thank you, sir.
