Even with opposing 3A North Carolina defenses committing up to three players to stop Michael Wyman, the Class of 2020 receiver still found a way to have an impact 2018 season. Going through heavy traffic yet again, the 6-5, 195-pound, target secured team-highs in receptions (37), yards (557), and touchdowns (5) aiding in the Dudley Panthers’ 10-4 season. The result off the field has been a four-star recruiting status and 28 offers extended from teams throughout the country including top SEC, ACC, and Big Ten programs.

In an RNG catch-up interview, I sat down with Wyman covering his junior campaign, recruiting process, and visits taken during the 2018 season.

Interview

Michael, the Panthers were one of the top teams within your division in the state of North Carolina yet again. What all was working well for you guys this year on offense?

“Everything was looking great, we had some injuries that set us back – we still built from that and had a good season.”

How were you being utilized within the offense?

“I was being used on fade routes, deep routes, short routes, everything. The routes depended on the coverage I was getting. They would double-team me or have an outside linebacker underneath, a DB on the outside, and a safety over the top. We would take advantage with our offense depending on the defense.”

Which areas of your game are showing the most improvement?

“My starts and stops and getting off the ball faster.”

Over the course of the season, which game has been your best?

“I had a couple. If I had to pick one, my best game was New Hanover (playoffs).”

What did you do well in the playoffs against New Hanover to make it your best?

“I was opening up the run game, catching the deep pass, and spreading the defense out more to give our running backs bigger holes to run through.”

What goals have you set this offseason for yourself?

“My goal is to work harder and get the team focused even more for next year.”

Which technical parts of your game will you work on during the offseason?

“I will work on getting ready for the double- and triple-team again.”

How many offers do you have now?

“I have 28 offers.”

Which schools were the last couple to offer you?

“Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Arkansas, and Minnesota.”

Wyman’s offer sheet: North Carolina, Arkansas, Florida State, South Carolina, Duke, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Mississippi State, Rutgers, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Syracuse, Minnesota, Virginia, West Virginia, Purdue, Indiana, Michigan, and Georgia

Are there any schools showing interest that have not offered?

“There are a lot. Auburn is showing some love, Georgia is showing love, Oregon is showing a lot of love, Stanford, Clemson, and Ohio State are all showing interest as well.

Which schools have you visited this fall?

“Georgia, South Carolina, Clemson, and Tennessee.”

How did the Georgia visit go?

“It went well. I got to see their new facility and we ate some great food.”

How did the Clemson visit go?

“It was nice. I got to go into the locker room before the game, talk to some players. I got to see how they prepare for a big game, I got to see their routine.”

And South Carolina, how did that go?

“It went well. I got to hang around the fans some. We tailgated before going in for the game.”

Michael, always great catching up with you. Thanks for your time today.

“Thank you.”
