Class of 2020 Archbishop Rummel talent Koy Moore is the difference maker college coaches want on their roster as an inside and outside receiver. Moore can stretch the field, turn a one-yard screen pass into an 80-yard touchdown, and drag across the middle leaving corners behind and linebackers in his dust. To date, 12 schools have presented Moore with scholarship offers; Florida, Mississippi State, Georgia, Auburn, Memphis, Tulane, Oregon, Nicholls State, Tennessee, and in-state power LSU. But, on Aug. 6 Moore took the road less traveled out of the Sportsman’s Paradise verbally committing to the USC Trojans.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with the four-star recruit covering his junior season and recruiting process post-commitment.

Interview

The Raiders are having a great season thus far at 4-1, what is working well for the offense so far this year?

“We are looking good the last three games. The offense is executing the plays, getting big five yards a play. We’ve been scoring 40 points each time out the last couple of games.”

How are you being utilized within the offense?

“They are getting me the ball out of the backfield and at receiver. When they are handing me the ball, I am running dives and jet sweeps.”

You guys just rolled over Archbishop Shaw, how did that game go for you?

“We won big, but I don’t think it was my best game. It can be hard when a team is focused on one person. When we fake it with me, it opens up room for other players to make plays.”

Which game has been your best so far this season?

“Teurlings Catholic has been my best. I had an 80-yard touchdown run and a nice couple of catches. That was my first game back.”

You get Holy Cross next, what kind of match-up will they provide for you and the Raiders offense?

“I think our offense will score 40 or more. They are a good football team. I think our offense is good, and our defense is amazing.”

Where are you seeing the biggest improvements in your game this year?

“The biggest improvements, I am making better plays… more exciting plays. Last year Ja’Marr Chase (LSU) was getting the majority of the passes and making yards, this year I am getting that chance. I am doing the amazing things and breaking long runs.”

What are the overall strengths of your game?

“My shake moves with the ball in my hands and my routes.”

I’m sure you get this question a lot, but what drew you to commit to USC?

“I have always been a USC fan. I have known Prentice Gill (GA) for years. USC is perfect for me. I like how they use their receivers and they always get a No. 1 quarterback. Coach Tee (Martin – offensive coordinator) is a fair person and someone I would like to play for in college.”

When did you last visit?

“I think it was in June.”

What all did you do during that visit?

“I was there for a camp. I just visited the school and did all the regular stuff you do on a visit.”

When are you visiting next?

“Over the summer and then during the season for my official visit.”

A player with your kind of talent, schools are not going to back off trying to land you or pull you away from USC, which schools are still in regular contact with you?

(Laughs) “Yes. LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Mississippi State – a lot of SEC schools are still in touch with me.”

Have you taken any unofficial visits this fall?

“Yes. I have been to Auburn for their game against LSU.”

Do you have any upcoming visits planned?

“Not right now. It is hard because we play a lot on Saturday nights. Hard to visit for games when we have games on Saturday ourselves.”

Koy, thanks for your time today and good luck with Holy Cross this week.

“Thank you.”
