Over the past two seasons, North Carolina defenses have done their best trying to guard Class of 2020 receiver Michael Wyman, but to no avail. The 6-5, 195-pound, target secured 18 passes for 478 yards with six touchdowns as a sophomore and had his breakout season a year ago with 46 receptions for 664 yards and five trips into the end zone; even with all the attention he draws from opposing secondaries. His talents and game changing potential at the collegiate level was not lost on scouts. The four-star recruit was extended 38 offers from across the country but decided to stay in the Carolinas for college with a Tuesday announcement of his verbal commitment to the South Carolina Gamecocks.
In an RNG catch-up interview, I got a few minutes with Wyman after his announcement for insight on how the Gamecocks closed one of the best receivers in the nation.

Interview
Michael, congratulations on your commitment to South Carolina.
“Thank you.”
How many offers did you have before your commitment?
“I was blessed with over 40 offers.”
What was your process narrowing down all of the schools?
“I didn’t really have a process. I walk by faith and listen to the Lord. I had a different indescribable feeling when I went on visits.”
What is the relationship like between you and the Gamecocks’ coaching staff and how did that evolve over time to the commitment?
“The Gamecocks was about my second or third offer during this process. We have had time to build a great relationship.”
When did you start to think South Carolina was the ideal fit for you?
“I let the coaches know how interested I was in their program back in February 2019.”
When did you verbally commit to the staff and who received your commitment?
“I let the coaches know my interest was strong in February. I let them know about my public verbal announcement in March.”
What was that moment like for you when you did commit?
“It was a great moment that I have been waiting for and a rewarding feeling for my mom and myself.”
How are you going to help recruit other top talents in the 2020 class to South Carolina?
“Other recruits will genuinely like the program for what they have to offer for academics and sports.”
Michael, thanks for your time today and, again, congratulations on your commitment.
“Thank you.”
