Twin brothers Blaine and Bryson Green are back at it in 2019 splitting 6A Texas defenses for Allen High School. The explosive receivers broke loose as underclassmen for the Eagles a year ago in a 14-1 season that ran through the semifinals in the playoffs. The Eagles are once again one of the top teams in the nation posting a 9-0 mark with Blaine covering around 600 receiving yards with five scores and Bryson about 400 with three trips into the end zone. The 6-2, 205-pound, four-star targets use their speed, hands, and athleticism to move the ball down the field and force secondaries into uncompromising situations not able to double up one or the other because both will make teams pay.

As the Eagles get closer and closer to the preseason goal of a perfect regular season and a run to the title, I got a catch-up interview with the duo getting an update on their growth on the field and their recruiting process that includes 18 scholarship offers each.

Interview

Guys, after a 14-1 2018 season the team has gone 9-0 looking really tough again this season. What is working for you guys on both sides of the ball?

Bryson: “It is the family atmosphere. Last year, we had a lot of good players but this year we are more team orientated. We are doing it for each other.”

Blaine: “I would agree with that. We do not have as much five- and four-star talent as last year but our team bonding had brought us to be a more dominating team this year.”

Bryson, your concentration on your routes is next level. I know you are focused, but what is the other part inside you that allows you to keep coming up with big plays when one or two defenders are draped all over you?

“I focus on the ball making sure I am the receiver to make the catch in big-time situations. I am making the catch for my team and myself.”

Blaine, regardless if you are lined up inside or outside you are creating separation and getting open. What are you doing better this season over a year ago with your route running?

“I’m doing a better job of selling each route. I start each of the routes the same so the defensive back does not know which route I am running or if I am doing a double move route. I ran a slant and go route a couple of games ago, I went inside broke up field, sold the route while making them look the same.”

Bryson, how has your overall game improved this season?

“My game has improved by being more patient and aggressive. I am getting into the corner’s face, getting on his toes before I make the move.”

Your quarterback has the utmost faith in both of you slinging the ball downfield trusting you will make the play. How has that connection between you and your quarterback grown this season?

Bryson: “Each and every game our quarterback gets more confident in us. He knows if he throws it our way it will either be an incompletion or in our hands; it never will be a turnover on his part.”

Blaine: “Through spring and summer practices, the trust has grown. We have gotten to know each other on and off the field. That bond is more trustworthy when times are tough.”

Blaine, which game this season has been your best and why do you consider it your top performance?

“Let me think. I believe the Jesuit game was my best this season. But I am hoping to do better in the playoffs.”

Why did you pick the Jesuit game?

“That was the most yards I had in a game all season, and in my career. I had 186 yards. When I was catching the ball, I was breaking away from the defenders. I was running crisp routes and getting separation for extra yards. My play helped us with the win.”

Bryson, which game did you turn in your best?

“The Jesuit game too. We passed a lot in that game. That was one of the first games this season showing our full potential. We did not run as many deep routes. We ran outs, slants, digs, and fades that were back shoulder. I had to catch the ball and get up field. I had a lot of yards after the catch in that game.”

Bryson, has there been an obstacle or challenge you have faced on the field this year?

“Yes. The safeties last year, as sophomores, did not know us. Now they are pulling the safeties over to the outside leaving the middle open. They are playing over us.”

How did that challenge help make you a better player?

“Being a team player, it is creating more options for my teammates. If I run a post, the wheel route behind me is wide open. I am happy for my teammates.”

Same question for you Blaine.

“I would say the same thing. I am seen as a deep threat so teams are trying to bracket us off. To overcome that, I have had to find different ways to run routes. I used different moves at the top of my routes and use different releases to get open.”

You guys have the 18 offers, which schools are showing interest in both of you but have not offered yet?

“LSU, Arkansas, USC, Ohio State, Florida, and Alabama a little bit. Michigan State and Notre Dame as well.”

Blaine and Bryson Green’s Offer Sheet: Auburn, Baylor, Colorado, Duke, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, Utah, Virginia Tech, Washington, Washington State

This fall, have the two of you taken any game day visits?

“Yes. We took game day visits to Baylor for the Iowa State game, one to Oklahoma State for their game against Baylor, and our brother (Seth) plays at Minnesota, we say their game against Illinois. We are going to the Auburn verses Georgia game next week as well.”

Bryson, how did the Baylor trip go?

“It is always fun going to Baylor. We go there a lot. Baylor is close by; we do not have to take a plane. I love the coaches and players on the team. They bring us in when we are there. We know all the coaches really well. Coach (Jeff) Nixon (RB) is a great dude. Matt Rhule (HC) is a great guy. I am excited about his contract extension. Their receiver’s coach, Coach (Frisman) Jackson, is a really cool dude too. He knows what he is doing on and off the field.”

Blaine, if you will, tell me about the Oklahoma State visit?

“It went very well. It was a good visit. We saw the atmosphere there on game day. That was a cool experience in the stadium. They have fans beating on the side of the stadium on third downs and when they scored. After the game, we visited with their receiver’s coach, Coach (Kasey) Dunn. We caught up on some things during the visit. We also talked to Coach (Mike) Gundy (HC). Coach Gundy sends us a snapchat video each week. He will take Coach Dunn’s phone and do a video wishing us good luck that week. He sends it each week. He is funny. That gets us pumped up.”

A big visit ahead to The Plains for the Georgia verses Auburn game. What has you guys excited about heading to Auburn?

Bryson: “I have always loved Auburn; they are my favorite college team. Auburn should have beaten LSU, but I will not get into all of that. I am wanting Auburn in the SEC Championship Game. I love their staff. Coach Kody Burns (WR) is a cool guy. He has been by our school a lot. The camp we attended there this summer was fun. I am glad we get to see an Auburn game this season. SEC games are crazy. This is our first true SEC game.”

That will be a lot of fun. After visiting Auburn, do you have any other visits ahead?

Blaine: “We have no other planned visits right now until Minnesota’s bowl game.”

Closing going back to football. The regular season closes out on Friday against Plano West (1-8). What kind of game are you guys expecting from the Wolves?

Bryson: “They are coming off their first win in four years, they will be pumped up. We will prepare for their best as always.”

Blaine: “This is the last game of the season, there is nothing for them to lose. Our goal is to win and to show everyone in Texas what we are about before the playoffs while maintaining a safe and healthy team.”

Guys, as always, it was great catching up with you. Good luck in the playoffs and have fun at Auburn.

Bryson and Blaine: “Thank you.”
