Interview

MJ, the 2020 season was your third time around as a varsity quarterback. As you keep acquiring knowledge about the game, what were some of the things you learned during your junior run that is helping you become a better player?

I improve on the mental part of the game, knowing what the defense is doing before the snap and on reading defenses. That area I thought I took it up to another level with my game. I am now putting it all together. The mental side has improved a lot by watching film. I do film study by myself and with my QB coach. I am always looking at the defense knowing where the ball has to go.

With your mechanics, what are you working on with your base, feet, and drops this spring?

Being consistent with drops, being explosive, and having a faster arm. My QB trainer and I are working on getting my front foot in the ground and getting the ball out of my hand faster.

With the upper part of your throwing motion, what are you working on there?

With my throwing, I am working on a quicker release and getting it out of my hand faster. I feel like I am accurate, but I am working on being even more accurate, throwing a good ball every time, and being on time while anticipating the openings.

You are also a high performing baseball player. Update me on how your junior season went on the diamond.

Yes, sir. I feel like it was an exciting one. We lost in the second round of the playoffs unfortunately. I thought we had a chance this season. With baseball, it is up to who is hitting the best at that time. We started strong and finished strong. I couldn’t play last year; it took me a couple of games to catch up at the plate but then I got it going. I played CF and RF. Baseball is a passion, I loved playing with my friends.

Back to football, have you been to any camps this offseason?

I have gone to a Rivals and an Under Armour camp. I have the Elite 11 (regional) coming up on Sunday.

The Under Armour Camp, how did that go for you?

I loved that camp. I feel that I showed out there. Even though I didn’t get invited to the finals, I proved I was one of the best in the country. I threw well and only missed one throw. It is always fun to go compete. I did really well.

Sounds like it. Are there any college camps you may attend this summer?

I don’t know yet. I may go to one or two. We have not talked about it yet.

Let’s catch up on your recruiting. How many offers do you have now?

I have 34 or 35.

Morris’ Offer Sheet: Akron, Alabama, Alabama-Birmingham, Alabama State, Appalachian State, Arkansas, Auburn, Coastal Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Howard, Kentucky, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, N.C. State, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Savannah State, Southern Miss, South Florida, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Valdosta State, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia

Do you have any official and/or unofficial visits set for this summer?

I haven’t set any officials yet. I went on visits to NC State, Geogia Tech, and Nebraska the last couple of weeks. A while ago I went to Florida State. I have no officials or unofficial visits set up right now.

How did the visit to Georgia Tech go?

It was great. It is always fun being in your hometown and watching them play. I pass Georgia Tech’s campus every day. Their campus is about 30 to 45 minutes from home. Georgia Tech has a great college football program.

And the Nebraska visit, how did that go?

It was amazing. The atmosphere was amazing. They had 50,000 fans there for a spring game. That is insane. The atmosphere, like I said, blew me away. Seeing the fans and how passionate they are was amazing.

Are you going to release a top schools list?

I don’t think I will put out a top schools list. I will just post my commitment date.

Do you have a commitment date in mind?

Definitely this month.

Oh wow. That’s exciting. MJ, thank you for your time today. Wishing you success with your process and announcement until we talk again.

Thank you, sir.
