College football recruiting fans got a snippet of all the skills in Isaiah Broadway’s game during the 2020 season. The 6-0, 195-pound, back compiled 1,056 all-purpose yards with 269 of those yards and two scores coming in the receiving game. The insane part, the majority of those yards were put together in about two-and-a-half games with Lancaster High School.
When the 2021 season gets rolling, the four-star recruit has his sights set on domination in the Natural State. Going from Texas to Arkansas, the four-star recruit will be suiting up with Sylvan Hills High School bringing along 15 scholarship offers.
In an RNG update interview, Broadway catches us up on his junior run, new digs with the Bears, and his recruiting process.
Interview
Isaiah, you had all the tailback skills on display during the 2020 season showcasing the speed, power, and balance. Were you happy with your performance during your junior campaign?
I was happy, I was really happy and excited to show off all the work I had been doing over the summer. It was cut short by injury and COVID.
What offensive set were you running with the Tigers?
We ran out of the Shotgun and Pistol, a dual-back formation. We were run-heavy, but we had a good quarterback. I feel that we had one of the best offenses in 5A. Several guys had offers, multiple offers.
How was the OC getting the ball into your hands?
Outside zone and he’d let me go downhill then I would pick which way I wanted to go. I was getting the ball on bubbles and reverses. They were trying to get me into open space where I could put my foot in the ground because I can get downhill really quick.
In which game did you turn in your best performance?
From this past season, I’d say maybe my first or second game. I had five carries for 99 yards with two touchdowns against Newman Smith. I had a good game against Samuell too.
When did you transfer to Sylvan Hills?
After Christmas break.
What have you been working on with your skills since joining the Bears’ roster?
You can never be too explosive, so I have been working on being even more explosive. I am elevating myself to being more mental, I am studying the game.
Guessing running back is one of the roles, where else might we see you on the field with the Bears in 2021?
I may play on the defensive side this year. That is a big possibility.
You just mentioned working on being more explosive, what are some of the workouts that you’ve been doing to increase your speed, agility, and burst?
I have been doing hills and working on my core strength; it all ties in. I have been swimming and doing yoga. I am reaching into every alleyway to make this my best year.
Will you be competing in any spring sports with Sylvan Hills?
Yes, I will be running track.
Which events?
The 100, 200, 4×1, 4×2, most of the sprint relays.
Let’s wrap updating your recruiting. Which schools are showing interest?
Texas A&M, Cal, TCU, UT (Texas), Notre Dame, Wyoming, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, OU (Oklahoma), Colorado, Oklahoma State, and LSU.
How many offers do you have now?
I have 15 offers.
Which programs were the last couple to offer you?
Michigan State was yesterday, UCA (Central Arkansas), Liberty, and Western Kentucky.
Broadway’s Offer Sheet: Arkansas, Baylor, Central Arkansas, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Houston, Illinois State, Liberty, Michigan State, New Mexico, North Texas, SMU, Utah, Washington State, Western Kentucky, and William and Mary
Looks like visits will begin again in June. When that gets going, are there any programs you’d like to go visit?
I will try to visit Cal, Baylor, and UCA, we’ll see who all else is showing interest at that time.
Isaiah, it was great catching up with you today. Wishing you success with your offseason workouts and with track season.
Thank you, sir.
