There is no other way to put it out there other than the truth, Class of 2022 receiver Keyan Burnett is a match-up nightmare for defenses. Already grown, Burnett stretches the tape and tips the scale at 6-foot 5-inches weighing 220-pounds. The four-star recruit got after it during the 2019 season with JSerra Catholic taking on Trinity League competition securing 22 passes for 314 yards with two trips into the end zone. The offseason has brought about change with Burnett ready to punish defenses with Servite in 2020. College coaches are sure to follow Burnett wherever he may go with 12 offers already extended.
In an RNG catch-up interview, Burnett updates his offseason workouts, transfer to Servite, and gives insight to his always growing recruiting options.
Interview
Keyan, when the 2019 season ended what did you feel were the strengths to your game as a receiver?
“As a receiver, I felt like I got better with my blocking skills and route running. My routes were crisp.”
Since the season ended what have you been working on to take your game to that next level?
“I am doing what I can right now staying on top of my workouts. We have a weight bench, I am using that and working on my route running.”
With the change to Servite in 2020, will you be doing anything different within their scheme? How will Servite be utilizing you?
“We got a new offensive coordinator; I am looking forward to it. He is a great guy. I want to be a mismatch on the field. However I can help my team, I will do it.”
Might we see you on defense this season?
“Yes. Coach (Troy) Thomas (head coach) is putting me at outside linebacker/defensive end.”
Are you excited for the opportunity to play defense this season?
“Definitely.”
A couple of minutes ago you touched on some of the things you’ve been doing to stay in shape this spring. What is your daily routine?
“Doing what I can on the weight bench and we have a hill by the house that I run. I am keeping life as normal as possible with my workouts.”
Going into recruiting, how many offers are you holding?
“I have 12 offers.”
Which programs were the last couple to offer?
“My recent offers have been Washington and Miami. I talked to their coaches; it was really cool.”

Going back over the last few months, did you get a chance to visit any schools?
“Yes. I went to SC (USC).”
How did the visit to SC go?
“It was great. They offered me on the visit. Their tight ends coach, Coach (John) Baker, offered me; he is a great guy. It was really cool. I got a great feel for the program during my visit.”
Time for my virus buster. What have you been doing for fun during the quarantine?
“For fun, I have been playing a lot of 2K and Madden. Also, coming off my wrist injury, I have been rehabbing my wrist.”
