Southern California knew all too well about the talents of Aaron Williams, but now the rest of the country is catching on. The Class of 2023 corner has earned four-star recruiting status the hard way with Centennial High School and by taking on every challenge presented to him from camps to 7v7 tournaments. The result off the field for the 6-2, 175-pound, defender has been 21 college programs asking him to come play for them at the next level.
In a return to the RNG Lab, Williams updates us on his visits to LSU and USC with a look inside his overall rapidly expanding recruiting process.
Interview
Aaron, you’ve been on the move this offseason with a really busy schedule. One of the stops you recently made was to USC. How did the visit go?
I loved it. They showed a lot of love, Coach Donte (Williams – CB coach) and I sat in the film room going over stuff, that changed me a lot.
What did you guys go over that changed you?
We went over press technique.
What were some of the things you saw and learned during the visit with USC?
They showed me a lot. Coach Donte went over the people, the NFL guys that come back, and his recruiting process. It felt like home.
How do their coaches see you fitting into their scheme?
They want me to come in and be a boundary corner, single side, man to man. They believe that I will be one of the top prospects in my class coming into USC.
Very cool. On Wednesday, you also picked up an offer from LSU. How did the LSU coaching staff notify you of the offer?
They called Coach Holmes at ProWay (7v7). I went to their camp and did well. I had talked to Coach O (Ed Orgeron – head coach) and Coach Corey Raymond (CB/RC).
You got to visit LSU in early June, how did the visit go?
It went well. We put on the jersey and walked around. I didn’t get the inside visit or the one-on-one stuff.
What were your impressions of the facilities, coaches, and the stadium?
LSU is big. It is huge. I believe in the program. I believe they are DBU (Defensive Back University). Derek Stingley was up there. He will be a first-round draft pick next year.
How many total offers do you have now?
21 offers
Which programs were the last couple to offer?
LSU, Penn State, and Mizzou.
Williams’ Offer Sheet: Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, BYU, California, Colorado, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, Missouri, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, Texas Southern, USC, Utah, and Washington State
Which programs are showing interest but haven’t offered yet?
There are 11 schools: UCLA, Washington, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Utah State, NAU (Northern Arizona), Rice, Texas Tech, Texas, and Alabama.
Do you have any more visits on the schedule for this summer?
Yes, on the 20th I am going to Colorado. I also plan on visiting UCLA at the end of this month.
You performed at the LSU camp, what all college camps have you competed at this summer?
I went to SMU and LSU camp.
If you will, tell me about the LSU camp, how you did and performed?
I performed as one of the top DB prospects in the class. I was with the older people, and I still balled out.
Nice. Have you been playing 7v7 this offseason?
Yes, with Team Fury, Toa, and ProWay.
How have the tournaments gone overall?
Good, but we end up losing in the championship. I still haven’t won one yet.
Are there any upcoming tournaments for you?
I think I am done with 7v7 for the year and now focused on getting ready for the season.
Aaron, it was great catching up with you today. Wishing you a fun time at Colorado and UCLA.
Thank you, Ryan.
