The 6-1, 180-pound, cover corner locked down California receivers this winter playing 11-on-11 padded club ball which has helped push his offer total to 10. With numerous college and national camps planned in addition to potential recruiting visits, college coaches across the country will get amble opportunity to see Long Beach Poly’s four-star corner in action this spring and summer.

In an RNG first-look interview, Austin stopped by the Clubhouse covering ground on his workouts, camp schedule, and potential summer recruiting visits.

Interview

Daylen, watching film on you from club ball, you were dialed in and focused. Over the long offseason, what did you work on with your technique before putting the pads on this winter?

I was working with my DB coach. We were doing stretching, focusing on technique, working on firing low, and working on my breaks.

Your eye discipline and hips pop on game film. What do you feel are some of the other strengths to your game as a cover corner?

I feel like I am good at press man. I am a long corner and I can get physical at the line.

What are some of your favorite coverages to execute?

I like Cover 2, because I can sit and bait the quarterback. I like man too, because I can get my hands on a guy. Cover 3 is another coverage I like, because I like running the routes with the receivers.

Going into your offseason workouts. What are you doing to increase your speed and agility?

Right now, I am running track to get my speed up. When I do DB work, I work on my eye discipline and attacking the ball in the air.

When you last ran a 40 what time did you post?

My last 40 in January, I ran a 4.6.

With track, which events are you running this spring?

The 4×1, 100, and 200.

What is your personal best in the 100?

My best in the 100 is an 11.2.

A minute ago you mentioned attacking the ball and your eye discipline as a couple of things you were working on this spring. Going deeper, what else are you keying on with your fundamentals?

With my technique I am also working on my stance at the line. I was bending at the knees, but I was told to stop doing that and use my length. Now I am working on bending with my hips. I am really working on my hips this offseason.

When the 2021 season picks up this fall, where all might we see you on the field?

You will see me on offense in 2021 at receiver and I am staying at corner on defense.

Are there any camps this spring or summer you may attend?

Yes, next week, on May 8, I am going to an Under Armour Underclassmen Camp at San Juan Capistrano and there is a Rivals camp coming up too. For college camps, I want to go to a UDUB (Washington), Georgia, and the Irish Invasion Notre Dame camp.

Staying with the colleges, which schools are showing interest?

UDUB is and there are a lot of college coaches following me on Twitter. Being an underclassman, I am not sure who all is showing interest because they cannot contact me yet.

How man offers are you holding now?

I have 10 offers.

Which programs were the last couple to offer you?

USC, Georgia, and Arizona State.

Austin’s Offer Sheet: Arizona State, Colorado, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, San Jose State, USC, Utah, and Washington State

When the coaches offer you, what are they telling you they like about your skills as a corner?

They like my size and aggression on the field, and the way I hit. They tell me I hit like a safety.

For sure. You have some camps planned, are there any visits you’d like to take?

Utah for sure, Oregon State, my brother is up there (RS-FS DB Alex Austin), he can give me a tour of the campus and facilities, and I’d like to visit Arizona State.

Daylen, it was great spending time with you today going over your workouts and recruiting. Wishing you success with your track season and camps.

Thank you, sir.
