Interview

Jaden, allow me to be the millionth person to offer up a congratulations on the championship winning season.

Thank you.

Being the leading receiver on the top-ranked team in Texas, when you were walking off the field after taking down Southlake Carroll (52-34) in the title game on Saturday what was that moment like for you?

It was definitely an amazing experience. We won a D-II title the year before, but we knew we had a lot to prove this season. Not many knew if we could do it at the D-I level, but we believed. Seeing our dreams come true was incredible.

What offensive set were you guys running during the 2020 season?

We were running a Spread. A lot of times we’d go two-back, but we still passed out of that. We’d put our best players in the game using them the best we can.

Which routes along the tree were you executing during the season?

A mix of slant routes, glances, goes, posts, post-corners, and out routes. Whatever the defense was giving us we’d try to exploit those opportunities. What the scouting report showed us we’d take.

After all the targets and going up against top Texas competition, which areas of your game improved the most throughout your sophomore season?

My press release and my route running. It is extremely important to create space, I realized that after my freshman year. I worked on that a lot during the offseason.

In which game did you turn in your top performance?

Let me think… I’m going to say Cedar Ridge.

Why did you pick that one?

Because I had three touchdowns for 100 yards.

It is all still fresh, but what will you focus on with your skills this offseason?

I will keep working on my athleticism. I will keep working on my speed, strength, and going vertical. The mental side of the game too. I will keep watching film and watch other elite receivers to see how they do things. Getting out with the quarterbacks is important. Making sure I am always throwing with them is especially important this offseason.

Are you playing any other varsity sports for Westlake?

Yes, basketball.

Are you guys in-season?

Yes, I started on Monday.

Good luck with that.

Thank you.

Let’s wrap talking a little bit about recruiting. Which schools are showing interest?

In-season, not very many. I haven’t been talking to too many schools.

How many offers do you have?

I have six.

Which programs have offered you?

Arizona State, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma, SMU, and Arkansas.

Jaden, again, congratulations on the championship winning season. Wishing you the same success on the hardwood.

Thank you.
