When a freshman tailback makes a varsity squad, they are typically on the field come Friday night running for their lives. This was not the case for Jadarian Price during the 2018 season. Price schooled 5A Texas high school football teams for 1,421 yards off 210 carries with 16 scores going up on the board. He also showed some of the emerging all-purpose back skills taking in five passes for an additional 26 yards. The 5-10, 175-pound, talent has a next level gear that cannot be taught. His speed, quickness in space, acceleration, and fantastic field vision has rightfully earned him five-star recruiting status with 10 offers following.

On a bye week from a 4-2 Denison High School season so far, and with a weekend visit to Texas in Dallas for the Oklahoma game coming up, I sat down with one of the nation’s top 2022 tailbacks for an update on his sophomore campaign.

Interview

Jadarian, the Yellow Jackets have been laying it on the opposition scoring an average of 42 points per game. What is working for you guys leading to all the high scores?

“We are a physical team. We lay the wood. We are big on contact and bringing it to them.”

You impressed the world last season rushing for over 1,400 yards with 16 touchdowns. Going into your sophomore season, what goals did you set for yourself to take your game to another level?

“I wanted to get stronger, faster, and be a better leader – that was my No. 1 goal. I knew that would make us more successful this season if I was a better leader.”

Six games into it, where do you feel your skills are improving the most?

“I have gotten smarter. Being a back, I have watched more film to better understand defenses. I know more from experience. Going through the summer, I worked on my route running, playing 7v7 helped that part of my game. I am a better route running and I am better at reading defenses after watching film.”

How do you or how would you describe your running style?

“I’d say I am physical when I need to be, but I have breakaway speed. I can get yards after the contact. I am lengthy and my stiff-arm game is pretty good.”

What is the best 40-yard dash time you’ve put down?

“At school, I ran a 4.5.”

Which game this season has been your best and why do you consider to be your top performance?

“That is a hard question. I haven’t had my best. We are on a bye this week. I am working on developing my game. Our next game will be the start of a new me this season.”

Colleges are responding to your talent. How many offers do you have?

“I have 10 offers.”

Price’s Offer Sheet: Arkansas, Baylor, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas, TCU, Tulsa, USC, and UTSA

Which schools are showing interest?

“Schools showing interest, I have some follows on Twitter and emails sent to my coaches from Penn State and Oklahoma.”

When you have talked to coaches or have received their feedback from your coach, what are you hearing that they like about your game?

“Most of the time they mention my character, and they love the way that I play and my footwork.”

Have you visited any schools yet?

“Yes. This summer, in June, I visited UT (Texas). That was fun. We had a pool party and a BBQ. I saw their facilities and met the coaches. They have good people at Texas. Over the summer, after the camps, I toured the facilities at Baylor and SMU.”

Upcoming, are there any planned trips on the schedule?

“I am thinking about visiting TCU, I really want to visit them soon. I am going to Texas for the Oklahoma game this weekend in Dallas.”

That will be fun. What has you excited about visiting Texas for the OU game?

“That is a big rivalry. Denison has a big rivalry with Sherman, it will be fun to watch something big like that at the college level.”

Are you playing any other varsity sports for Denison?

“Yes, sir. I play basketball and run track.”

Which events in track are you competing in this year?

“I run the relays, 4×1, 4×2, and 4×4, and sometimes I do the long jump.”

Last question. The team has won two in a row and go on the road next week to face a tough Frisco (6-0) team. What kind of game can the fans expect on Friday Oct. 18?

“They can expect a physical game. Our defense is developing and will be ready. They ca expect defensive and offensive points going on the board.”

Jadarian, thanks for your time today and good luck with your visit to Texas on Saturday.

“Thank you.”
