Any opportunity to get on the gridiron is an opportunity to get better. That motto worked for Class of 2023 defensive end/tight end Jayden Wayne (6-5.5, 245) during the truncated 2020 season. After over a year on the sidelines, the Washington high school football season got started this winter and was over in the blink of an eye. During Lincoln High School’s six-game season, their newly ranked five-star talent produced 34 tackles with eight tackles for a loss, two sacks, and forced two fumbles while hauling in four passes for 110 yards. The play on the field has pushed his scholarship tally to 16.

In an RNG update interview, Wayne stopped by the Lab for a quick overview on his season with a look at his potential recruiting visits this summer.

Interview

Jayden, how did the 2020 season go for you overall?

Overall, it went well. I learned a lot and it was fun playing with my team.

What did you learn this season that will help you going forward?

Going against double teams and I worked on my hand technique a lot.

On the offensive side of the ball, how were the coaches using your athleticism?

They were getting me open and putting me in position to make the play, and they were utilizing me with my blocking

Going over to defense, where all were you lining up on that side of the ball this season?

Outside linebacker and defensive end.

After the work put into your game over the offseason, where did you show the biggest gain in your technique and skills?

I improved a lot on my swim move, being more violent with my hands, being more explosive, and getting out of my stance faster.

As it may seem you were just in the offseason working hard, you are back in it again. What will be the focus for you in the weight room and with your speed and agility?

Running track, and getting stronger every day lifting weights. I am working on my hips and my mobility.

And what will you work on with your technique?

My hands, getting below the pads, my leverage, and I will watch more film this offseason.

Let’s close with an update on recruiting. Which programs are now showing interest?

Clemson, Texas, UCLA, Florida, and Penn State.

How many offers have been given to you?

I have 16 offers.

Which programs were the last couple to offer?

Colorado and LSU.

Wayne’s Offer Sheet: Arizona State, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida Atlantic, LSU, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, Tennessee, UNLV, USC, Washington, and Washington State

This summer, when the dead period lifts, are there any visits you may take?

Yes, absolutely. I want to visit LSU, USC, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oregon, Florida, and probably Texas.

Jayden, I appreciate your time today. Wishing you success with your offseason workouts and track season.

Thank you.
