When we last saw Hunter Harr slinging the pigskin around the yard, he was ripping Alaska defenses for Chugiak High School. The 6-2, 190-pound, dual-threat guided the Mustangs to a 10-1 season in 2017 completing 148 of 218 passes for 2,412 yards with 21 scores posted on the big board and rushed for another 802 yards with three trips of his own into the end zone. All the hard work proved fruitful for the team as Railbelt Conference champs and individually receiving first team All-State and All-Conference honors.

Initially as a member of the 2018 recruiting class, Harr took his two-year LDS mission to Africa but was brought back early due to the Coronavirus, and has now reopened his recruiting process. Teams already showing interest includes Hocking (OH), Montana State, Southern Virginia, Morehead State, and Minnesota Community College.

With his recruiting expanding and hours spent on the practice field regaining his old touch, Harr sat down for a one-on-one interview covering his talents on the field and process getting back into his field general ways.

Interview

Hunter, you took a break from football over the last two seasons. If you will, tell me what you have been up to during this time?

“During the last two seasons I have been on an LDS mission in Africa. I was there for a year-and-a-half, because of the virus I came back early. When I was down there, I was speaking to people about God, serving them and living with them. I was there until last month.”

When we saw you on the field last in 2017, what was the offensive set you were running with the Mustangs?

“We ran a flex-bone read option offense out of the Pistol with a lot of RPO (run-pass option), that was our offensive set.”

At that time, what did you feel were the strengths to your game on the field?

“I feel like I was a dual-threat with speed to make plays with my legs and accurate with the ball; I only threw three interceptions during my senior year. Defenses did not know if I would run or pass, that element of surprise helped me out and utilized my decision-making skills on the field.”

During your break, what have you been doing to keep the physical and mental football skills sharp?

“Good question. In Africa there are not a lot of opportunities to practice football, but I did workout every day. Since I have been home, I have been on my high school field throwing and doing drills. I have been doing that for about three weeks now. It was much harder to do that in Africa.”

No doubt. Since you’ve been back, what have you been working on with your game?

“I have been working a lot on my footwork, going through my film seeing the things I need to work on, and not overstepping on my throws. My brother is a senior, he has been running routes for me helping me get back into it.”

When you graduated from high school, what was your cumulative GPA?

“My GPA was a 3.94 unweighted.”

What did you score on the ACT?

“I scored a 25 on the ACT.”

With you coming back earlier than expected, what is your plan when looking at recruiting options? Are you seeking to enroll this summer or this fall?

“I’d like to prepare myself to get ready for the 2021 season through this fall. The reason being, I was not planning on being home until November. I’d also like to give myself the best opportunity to be recruited over the next couple of months. If all goes as planned, I will enroll this January.”

Hunter, thanks for your time today and good luck with your workouts and recruiting process going forward.

“Thank you.”

  • This kid is the real deal! Many will think that competition is lacking in Alaska. Well, there are a lot of big kids up here, and never forget the fact that you have to be tough, just to live in Alaska. There are big tough talented kids in the metro area of Anchorage. 500,000 people in the metro area, and High schools are close, big, and take football just as serious as any programs in the lower 48! Brandon Pili rushed this kid, and many just as big. He still put up numbers!!!! Legit D1 QB. Whoever gets him, will find the biggest diamond in the rough!
