Maurice Britton Jr. had a great career at Bonnabel High School in Kenner, Louisiana. The 5-8, 174 pound, running back finished his senior campaign with 1,173 rushing, six rushing touchdowns, and one kickoff returned for a touchdown. This is the first time in a decade that a rusher from Bonnabel has reached 1,000 yards in a season. Despite all his contributions to the team, the Bruins finished the 2016 season 2-8. Bonnabel’s lone wins came against Cox (22-7) in Week 6 and L.W. Higgins (13-6) in Week 8.

To go along with his great stats, Britton has won numerous individual honors including be named second-team All-District in his final three seasons. The Class of 2017 recruit currently has one offer to play at the collegiate level but is also drawing interest from several other schools including Arkansas State and Grambling State.

Britton is not only a star on the football field but also works hard in the classroom where he has 3.8 GPA and scored a 22 on his ACT test. He has plans of studying business while attending college.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Maurice to talk about his high school career and his recruiting process.

Interview

Maurice, what are your thoughts on the regular season?

“We finished 2-8 and came two games short of making the playoffs. We had a tough season, it could have gone better but we started clicking too late in the season. We lost a couple of close ones due to turnovers and beating ourselves in the important moments of the game.”

What are your thoughts on your individual performance this year?

“I think I had a good season. I wish it would have gone with more wins but you can’t go back to the past. I made history for my school, being the first to rush for over 1,000 yards in over a decade which I am really excited about. I finished with 1,173 rushing yards.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“Some may say my size is a downfall but I use it to my advantage. I also use other components to go with it. I have great vision, my eyes are my best weapon. I can catch out the backfield, and I have quickness. My power is another one. I finish runs strong and the first man is not going to take me down.”

“My favorite football player is Adrian Peterson, but I like to model my game from Ezekiel Elliot. I have been watching him ever since he started playing for Ohio State.”

When do you plan on making a commitment to a school?

“When I find that right one for me, both in athletics and academics.

Who has had the biggest impact on your football career?

“My parents, they are my backbones. They have been there for me since I started playing at the age of six. Their support is amazing!”
