To say Parkview Baptist was a run-first team during the 2019 season might be an understatement. The Eagles were a ground-and-pound squad set up to wear out Louisiana 3A defenses over the course of four quarters. During his first season in that set, Class of 2021 dual-threat Roman Mula threw for an estimated 950 yards with 17 touchdowns and rushed for another 500 with 10 individual trips into the end zone. His Eagles squad is off to a 3-1 start in 2020 with the 6-1, 190-pound, field general spinning it for 681 yards with nine touchdowns while rushing for 185 with four more scores, even with one of those game called at halftime due to inclement weather.
As Mula and the Eagles hit the midway point of their season charging towards the playoffs, the three-star recruit (QB Hit List) stopped by the RNG Lab for another confab updating us on his season and recruiting.

Interview
Roman, the Eagles have started the season out 3-1. In your view, how is the team looking overall?
I think we are looking way better than last year. We had a tough start last year. Our offense is playing better this year.
The offense during the 2019 season was multifaceted, some pro-style and Spread. How is the offense setup in 2020?
It is the same type of offense, but we trust our passing game more this year than last year. We are running a lot, but we are passing more than last year.
What did you work on the most over the offseason to prepare for your senior season?
Learning the playbook inside and out and going over defenses; I had all the footwork down. I worked on timing with my receivers. We worked on that every day. The main focus was on the playbook and reading defenses.
How did you push your knowledge and understanding of the game forward over the spring and summer months?
My coach and I would watch games over the summer. We’d look at where I could have gone with the ball on different plays, what I did right, and what I could have done better. We broke it down for a better understanding.
After the four games played, where are you showing the biggest overall improvements with your technique and physical skills?
My arm has gotten stronger, the whole passing game is better. I already have more passing touchdowns this year than all of last year. My accuracy has improved a lot. I was at 88 percent last week. We are clicking on offense. I had the arm talent last season, but that was my first year in that offense. Before then, I was in a triple-option my sophomore and freshman seasons. I am putting it all together this year.
How are defenses lining up against you guys this season?
The majority is a Cover 2. We are seeing two high, some man, and we see some Cover 4. I guess we’ve seen everything really.
Which routes are your receivers running?
We have a big playbook with a lot of different routes. It changes week to week based on the team we are playing and where we can attack. We are a vertical threat team but we are also attacking the middle, outside, and key matchups.
So far this season, which game has been your best personal performance?
I’d say either our last game against West Feliciana… or Dunham. Probably the last game.
How is the 2020 season in Louisiana set up? How many games are on the schedule?
We have an 8-game schedule, normally we play 10 games. This season we had one non-district game and the rest are district. Then we have playoffs, when you lose and you are out.
Let’s catch up on recruiting. You have the offers from Air Force, Southern, and Stetson (FL), which schools are showing interest?
Sam Houston State, Lamar, and South Alabama. There are others here and there, but those other schools are reaching out more.
Did you take any virtual visits over the last few months?
Yes, sir. I took one with Air Force and I did a Zoom call with Stony Brook.
Roman, I appreciate your time today and wish you and the Eagles success the rest of the way until we talk again.
Thank you, sir.
