The 2019 high school football season was an important one for Jaishon Davis. The 6-2, 225-pound, athlete was given an opportunity to apply his natural gifts all over the field playing receiver, running back/H-back, and outside linebacker. Davis was eased into his do-everything roles hauling in 10 passes for 187 yards with a team-high five touchdowns and carried the rock three times for 56 yards with another score going up on the board. In his only game playing linebacker, the Arkadelphia product put an end to seven plays, six all by himself. When the 2020 season kicks off, Davis will be a two-way starter at running back and middle linebacker giving an opportunity to add to his scholarship offers. The other thing he will be doing is unleashing his furry of talents on opposing squads against 4A Arkansas squads.

In in his first visit to the RNG Lab, Davis covers ground on his offseason workouts, recruiting process, and talks fall camp with the Badgers.

Interview

Jaishon, I love what the offensive coordinator at Arkadelphia was doing with you last season. You were lining up all over the place from receiver, running back, to even an H-back. The ball was coming your way in many creative ways. Catch us up, what all were you doing on offense a year ago?

On offense, I was receiving a lot, running some and got a couple of touchdowns, and blocking opening up the run game.

Given all that you were doing, how did you see your overall talents improve throughout the season?

Playing those positions helped me improve overall, my route running improved, my catching, and blocking all improved.

The Badgers were not executing a simple offense, but giving multiple looks for defenses to prepare for each week. What were some of the formations and schemes you guys were running?

We were mostly running the Pistol.

What style of offense will you guys run this season?

Almost the same thing.

Which positions on offense will you be playing this season?

I will be at running back more than receiver this year, starting as a running back.

Are you excited about the challenge of being the team’s starting running back?

Yes, sir. I like it a lot.

On defense you were lining up at outside linebacker. What scheme were you guys running and what were your roles within the scheme?

We ran a 3-4. They moved me to Mike (linebacker) for this year.

What did you feel were the overall strengths to your game on defense at the end of the 2019 season?

I felt they were pretty good, especially for only one game. Reading the keys and staying outside making tackles were my strengths.

What style of defense are the Badgers executing this season?

A 3-4.

Throughout the offseason, what have you been working on with your skills on defense?

I have been going over different things, working to improve my tackling, reading my keys, and adjusting to cut backs to make tackles.

Working on with your offensive skills?

My route running, catching, reading blocks, and getting downhill.

Did you get a chance to lay down a 40-yard dash this offseason?

Yes, sir. I ran a 4.65

Nice. As you head into your junior season, which schools are showing recruiting interest?

Memphis and Oklahoma State.

Which schools have offered?

Kansas and Arkansas Baptist.

Going back to the upcoming season. How is everything going in fall camp so far?

It is going great.

How is the team looking overall?

We are looking pretty good, especially on offense. We have some things to work on with our defense.

Team kicks off against Camden Fairview, what are you expecting in that showdown?

I expect it to be a good game, maybe a close one.

Are there any big games you have circled on the schedule this season?

Nashville and Joe T. Robinson

When you guys get going, what personal goals have you set for yourself this season?

I want at least 2,000 rushing, 20 touchdowns, and at least 100 tackles.

Jaishon, I know you can do it. Good luck this season going after your goals. Thanks for your time today and I look forward to catching up during the season.

Thank you.
