The long and winding road of Trever Jackson’s recruiting process has come to an exciting conclusion – the four-star out of Jones High School (Orlando) has committed and signed with Florida State. The Class of 2024 recruit was on his way to Ole Miss until having a change of heart on Oct. 29. Now the Seminoles have added another in-state star to their powerhouse program.
At one point, Florida State was not a top contender for Jackson’s National Letter of Intent signature with Oklahoma, Texas A&M, UCLA, and Ole Miss listed as his top schools.
“Our relationship really started going after my junior year, in my offseason after going up for a mega camp,” Jackson shared. “I talked to coach Tony Tokarz (QB). I had been in contact with coach Tony Tokarz, and I started to talking to coach (Mike) Norvell more; they were keeping an eye on me.”
Jackson knows a lot about the Seminoles and life in Tallahassee as a student.
“My sister goes to Florida State; I have always been connected there,” Jackson shared. “The coaches there, they had remembered me from the different visits. Our relationship has been good.”
The ongoing relationship led to a scholarship opportunity.
“They called me about three or four weeks ago, they wanted to make sure I had everything straight,” Jackson stated. “I told them I wanted to come in as an early enrollee. They lost two quarterbacks, they hit me up and told me they have a spot for me.”
The four-star ended up at his top school after all.
“It was a dream come true getting that offer,” Jackson said. “It was a special thing knowing Florida State was a dream school for me. Now I can chase my dream at my dream school with the opportunity to compete; is a blessing.”
The pairing was something coming, the behind-the-scenes details on enrollment had to be cleared first.
“I told them over the phone as soon as I got the okay,” Jackson shared. “I told them I am coming. They got my paperwork done. I think two weeks after that they told me to come up; I moved in two days ago. I just got all my stuff in.”
Jackson spoke about already being on campus.
“It is a great experience,” Jackson stated. “Tallahassee is a great college town. Everyone around here has a great vibe. There is great energy with the school. It is cool that my sister and I are at the same school again. We were at the same school in elementary school, middle school, and high school.”
Jackson being at Florida State has more meaning than being back with his sister and at his dream school.
“The day before I got the text from my school, my grandmother passed,” Jackson shared. “She told me out of nowhere that she wanted me at Florida State. She didn’t know anything about my recruitment. To get the okay, it was like a sign from God.”
