There are some guys that just pop off the screen when watching their game footage; Kyle Beaudry is one of those guys. Playing as an outside linebacker during his junior year for Liberty High School (Henderson, NV), Beaudry was that cat laying the wood, closing the lanes, and running down quarterbacks and running backs all over the field to the tune of 66 total stops, 21 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, five quarterback hurries, and a forced fumble. Five scholarship offers have been dropped by UNLV, Hawaii, Army, Nevada, and Columbia with a line of interest building.
In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with the very talented 6-1, 225 pound, second team All-State linebacker to learn more about his game and recruiting process to date.
Interview
Kyle, I like your game. You get after it. Watching your film, one can tell you put a lot into each play and each game, how depleted are you after a game?
“After a game, I don’t feel it. I play with a lot of energy and emotion, but I don’t get fatigued in a game. Against a no-huddle, I may get a little winded after a long drive but I’m always ready to go for the next play. The next morning, I can feel it then.”
What gets you hyped up before a game?
“My pregame is a little different than others. I like to focus. I don’t have to have the music going. Before the game I am usually low key, but once we kickoff I get going.”
Are you a talker on the field?
(Laughs) “I can be.”
Which game last season was your best, and why do you consider that your best game?
“Against American Heritage, that was a big game. I think they were third in the nation. They had a good offense and skill good players. I felt our defense played really well against them. I had a lot of stops and open field tackles. I think that was one of my best games and against one of our best opponents.”
How did your overall skillset improve as a linebacker during your junior year?
“My junior year was more about learning new keys and ways to read the offense. I really improved learning the game overall. My quickness and strength has improved a lot. My hustle was better. This year I have an even bigger emphasis on every play with no plays off.”
What are you working on this offseason?
“This offseason I am trying to get bigger. I am playing middle-backer in 2018. I am bulking up, getting faster, better with my hands, and staying light on my feet.”
Did you max out this spring?
“Yes, sir. My last bench was 335, squat 515, and my power clean was 305.”
Impressive. How did spring practices with the Patriots go?
“We run a tight ship. We have a schedule and go after it. During the spring, the new guys and underclassmen were getting into the tempo and intensity of our team. We got our reps in and worked to make sure everyone knows what they are doing out there.”
How is the team looking?
“Overall, we look pretty good. We lost most of our secondary from last year and our quarterback and defensive tackle, but we have some young guys in the secondary and on the defensive line stepping up. We have our offensive line back – we look good and we some good guys stepping up.”
You got a couple of snaps last year at running back, will you do the same this year?
“We’ll see. Depends what we need on offense. I may a little bit, but we have some young backs that are really good.”
You were near perfect catching passes for touchdowns going 3-for-4, will your role in the passing game expand at all in 2018?
(Laughs) “Let’s hope it expands. That stat is not a fluke, I have hands. The corner route is my favorite.”
Where all will we see you on defense during your senior year?
“We have a lot of different packages. Our defense is complicated for a high school defense. I can roll to outside and play in space, I can play 3-tech if needed. I will probably move around the box some this year but mainly be at middle-backer.”
Which camps have you been to this offseason?
“I went to the Opening Regional in Los Angeles.”
Do you have any upcoming camps scheduled?
“On Tuesday, I will be at an Arizona State camp. We are doing a team camp the 16th-19th in Boise and I am looking to go to Columbia and Army camps this summer. I’d like to hit a few west coast camps, but I have a busy summer schedule.”
We have been cooperating with phenterminehealth.com for over half a year.
Which schools came by this spring to meet with you or watch you in practice?
“A lot of schools: Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, Nebraska, UCLA, USC, UNLV, Nevada, Utah State, Utah, and Minnesota.”
How many offers do you have now?
“I have five: UNLV, Hawaii, Army, Nevada, and Columbia.”
Have you visited any schools yet?
“I have taken unofficial visits to Cal, Nevada-Reno, and UNLV.”
How is everything going in the classroom?
“I have a 4.4 GPA.”
Fantastic. Have you taken the ACT and/or SAT yet?
“Yes. I scored a 26 on the ACT and a 1220 on the SAT.”
Congrats.
“Thank you.”
Have you started to think about what you want to major in once in college?
“I am on the fence between computer science or kinesiology, sports medicine – something in medical sports.”
Last question. As the recruiting process starts to get a little more serious for you, what key points about a school and a program would make your ideal fit?
“First, you want to be comfortable. You want a place that feels like home – the campus, city, and the environment. I want a good relationship with the coaches. You will be there for a few years, you want to feel comfortable with them. Something else I look at, I don’t look at what the program has done in the past but where the program is heading. I look at their facilities and the players on the team. The education provided is important to me. I want to be set up for life after football.”
Kyle, I appreciate your time today. Good luck with the upcoming camps.
“Thank you.”
