Very few high school players hit the collegiate ranks with the vast amount of experience as what George Miki-Han will bring to whichever programs is lucky enough to sign him. Miki-Han (6-1, 300) has been a fixture on the offensive line for national powerhouse Mater Dei High School for years. He has a national championship ring to show for his work and hours of time grinding in the trenches against top high school programs from coast to coast, teams loaded with five-, four-, and three-star players. The three-star recruit holds offers from Boston College, Colorado State, Dixie State, and Bowling Green with Pac-12 interest rising.
In an RNG catch-up interview, Miki-Han steps into the Lab covering his junior season on the field with an update on his offseason workouts.
Interview
George, Mater Dei went through another grueling schedule on the field in 2019, but you’ve been through all of that before. As you rack up the experience against top talent from coast to coast, how has your understanding and knowledge of the game improved?
“It has improved dramatically. Playing the tough teams has gotten me better over the years. Going to college, I will feel that I have been through it all and prepared for what is coming. Mater Dei prepares you for that. These experiences made me understand how to deal with pressure, but allows you to work through it, getting a game plan together for yourself, and facing it.”
Playing center is not easy, how did your pass-pro improve last season against the top competition?
“I feel like it improved mainly in getting depth and eyeing out my target. At center, it is harder getting out of stance into pass-pro. I became more flexible and stronger in my base.”
What about with your run blocking? How did that part of your game go to another level?
“My run blocking, same thing – staying low, level to the ground, grounded, with a strong base and being more flexible. From sophomore to junior year, I changed dramatically with my improvement. The offseason work really helped.”
Have you maxed out in the weight room recently?
“The only max I had was a while ago; my sophomore year I benched 345.”
Are you taking on any different positions during your senior year?
“I plan to stay at center, but if I have to play another position, I will step up in that leadership role.”
Same kind of question again, what are you working on this offseason?
“This offseason I am trying to improve my strength and add more definition in my body. I want to lose 10 to 15 pounds. I want to make a major improvement this year in my strength.”
Did you attend any camps before everything shut down?
“I attended a Rivals camp and the Under Armour All-American Camp.”
How did the Under Armour camp go for you?
“It went pretty good. I thought it was a good camp. My reps were good, there was a lot of good competition out there.”
With recruiting, which schools are showing interest but have not offered yet?
“Cal, they’ve been showing interest. They have a good program, good academics, and I can stay home in California. I have a recent offer from Colorado State; I was planning to take a visit there before the virus broke out.”
How many offers do you have now?
“Four.”
You mentioned visiting Colorado State, are there any planned visits you may take once the campus bans are lifted?
“Yes. I plan on visiting Cal and Colorado State.”
George, thanks for your time today and good luck with your workouts this spring.
“Thank you.”
