When the 2021 season gets going for Braylon Ray Harvey, expect a lot of big fireworks at Flower Mound High School’s stadium. The 6-0, 191-pound, Texas tailback was in a pass-heavy attack with Prestonwood Christian Academy in 2020 limited in his touches and opportunities. With his transfer to the Jaguars, Harvey will be put in a position to truly showcase his 4.4 speed and abilities to change the momentum of the game in a heart beat with his athletic talents. When those totes start happening, he will be tracked by programs across the country like Stanford, Michigan, Wichita State, New Mexico State, and Cal.

In an RNG exclusive interview, Harvey sat down for a one-on-one ahead of a planned football camp circuit and in the early part of his track season.

Interview

Braylon, there is a ton of talent in the Division I TAPPS classification. What were some of the key things you learned during the 2020 season that are helping you already with your offseason workouts?

It is showing me I need to work extremely hard where I need to be.

What was a key part to your game that improved with the experience during your junior season?

In the backfield, I learned how to read blocks better. During my freshman year I was not as knowledgeable about the game. During my junior season I learned how to follow my blocks.

How would you describe your running style as a tailback?

My running style is all about patience. Follow your blocks and your pullers and then go. I used to run blindly to where I thought the hole would be. You can’t do that in varsity ball. You have to follow your blocks.

Your change of direction on a dime is impressive. What do you feel are some of the other strengths to your game?

My other strength, I am an all-purpose back. I can run routes. Besides my change of direction, I feel that I can do it all. I can play slot and tailback.

With Flower Mound, what all will you be doing once the 2021 season gets going?

So far, I haven’t gotten a hold of their entire offense. My new coach told me they like to run the ball a lot. In my old offense we were running a Spread. This one is less empty set based and more of a balanced attack. It is an old school running back in the backfield offense.

What are you working on this offseason with the fundamentals to your game?

So far training with Coach Hooks, I have been lifting heavy; very heavy. I maxed out on Tuesday.

What did you get on your maxes?

I got 275 on power clean and my squat was 380.

What are some of the workouts you are doing to increase your speed and agility?

For speed and agility, a friend showed me a workout that has worked well for me. I go to a local field and run 20s, 40s, 60s, and 100s. I also do a track workout running 300s and 400s.

What is the best 40-yard dash time you’ve posted?

My best was a 4.4. That was hand-timed last year.

Are you competing in any other varsity sports?

Yes, sir. I compete in track.

Which events?

The 100 and 300 hurdles.

What are your best times in the two events?

My fastest 100 was 11.3 and in the 300 it was a 44.

Braylon, thanks for your time today. Wishing you the best of luck with your offseason workouts and track season.

Thank you, sir.
