There are certain details to a running back’s game that can be more important on the gridiron than Olympic track speed, and Class of 2021 talent Erik Hall has them all. Eliminating defender’s angles, allowing holes to develop, following blockers, great field vision, the moves, and planting the foot and going without dancing are just some of the traits to Hall’s game that made him a game changer for Camden Fairview.
During his senior season, the 5-11, 175-pound, scat-back took 87 carries for 570 yards scoring four times and secured seven passes for 44 yards. On his way to earning All-State honorable mention and All-Conference for a second time, he also completed 4 of 6 passes for 42 yards.
Even though Hall has taken on top 5A Arkansas competition, college programs have not been exposed to his abilities on the field. Interest has trickled in from Henderson State, Southern Arkansas, and Minnesota with an offer from St. Mary’s in Kansas.
In an RNG Q&A sit down, Hall covers ground on his Friday night talents.
Interview
Erik, your experience and maturity as a running back shows on every carry on your film. How long have you been playing the running back position?
All my life. Running back is the only position I have played, and I’ve played it since Pee Wee.
What were some of the play calls that got the ball into your hands during the 2020 season?
A lot of counters and inside zone plays.
Even with you guys running the spread, looks like defenses were committing seven in the box with a nickel or safety shading in on either side. From game to game, how were defenses lining up against you?
Ooh, sometimes a 3- or 4-front.
What do you feel are the things you do well on the field that allows you to be such an explosive offensive threat?
When I get it, my vision, my first step, and knowing where to go. I am elusive.
Are there small traits to your game that may get overlooked?
My catching, my routes, and my blocking.
What is the best 40-yard time you’ve put down?
A 4.6 laser-timed.
Do you play any other varsity sports?
I’ve also played baseball and basketball.
What is your cumulative GPA?
My GPA is a 3.1.
Erik, thanks for your time today. Wishing you success on the recruiting trail until we talk again.
Thank you, sir.
