The breakout sophomore season for Quincy Briggs at Freedom Prep in 2019 has drawn in college football programs from throughout the country. The three-star recruit shines on defense at corner and can turn the momentum of the game in a heartbeat at receiver. With most Memphis area teams missing out on a 2020 season, college programs have kept up with the 5-10.5-170-pound, prospect via workout and 7v7 tournaments. The continued growth in his game has brought 15 offers to the table.
While preparing for his senior season with Memphis Central and 7v7 tournaments across the country, Briggs took a break from his workouts for an RNG exclusive interview.
Interview
Quincy, throughout your sophomore season back in 2019, your speed was such a big difference maker, and on both sides of the ball. How fast are you?
My freshman year I clocked a 4.4. I am quick and twitchy and I can cut on the dime and get up the field.
What have you been doing to increase your speed and agility?
I run track. We do a lot of circuits. I think we have the best program in the state.
Which events are you competing in this spring?
The quarter, 400, and 200, and relays, 4×2 and 4×4.
What are your top times in the 200 and 400 this year?
This year, I ran a 22.5 in the 200 and a 50-flat in the 400.
When you wrapped your sophomore season what did you start working on as a corner/defensive back?
My breaking and footwork. I have really good ball skills and I can run any route with a receiver. My coach wanted me to work on getting in and out of my breaks quicker this offseason.
How have you pushed your skills forward as a receiver?
As a receiver, that is second nature. It is like playing backyard football when I am doing one-on-one. Coach James, he works with me as a DB. Playing receiver is just natural.
When the 2021 season gets going this fall with Memphis Central, where all might we see you on the field?
Everywhere: quarterback, receiver, corner, safety, and running back.
Playing quarterback, are you excited about playing that position during your senior season?
(Laughs) Playing quarterback, that is fun. That’s the best position on the field.
Are you playing 7v7 this spring?
Yes, sir. I am playing with PPA. We are going to Vegas this weekend for a tournament.
Playing 7v7, how is that helping you grow as a player?
7v7 for me, it helps me work on my attitude. With the skills, 7v7 is nothing I have not seen. My teammates give me the test in practice. Playing 7v7, they try to fight all the time. Going against guys like that helps me be a leader. I am the captain of the defense. It helps keep me focused and communicating on the field with my teammates.
Have you been to any camps yet or do you have any coming up you may go to this spring or summer?
I have a few camps I am going to, Under Armour is coming up. I can’t remember all of them. I haven’t been to any yet. I am either training or playing in tournaments on the weekend.
Are you going to any college camps this summer?
There are a few schools that have invited me to camps.
Which programs are showing recruiting interest?
Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Dartmouth, Old Dominion, Louisville, Texas Tech, Purdue, and Memphis.
How many offers do you have?
I have 15 offers.
Which programs were the last couple to offer you?
Yale, Ball State, and Western Kentucky.
Briggs’ Offer Sheet: Alabama-Birmingham, Arkansas, Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Grambling, Jackson State, Liberty, LSU, Marshall, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Tennessee-Martin, Western Kentucky, and Yale
Are there any visits you may take this summer?
I want to visit Marshall, Yale, Liberty, and Jackson State again.
At which position are most programs recruiting you to play?
Defensive back or receiver, mostly as a DB.
Are you planning on putting out a top schools list?
I am committing this weekend in Vegas.
Oh, wow. Congrats. How you are going to do it?
It depends how humble I want to be. It all depends on how the tournament goes.
Quincy, it was great getting time in with you going over your spring workouts and recruiting. Wishing you and the team success this weekend in Vegas and with your upcoming commitment.
Thank you, sir.
