Speed kills, and Marquarius White is slaying them on the 6A Alabama gridirons. The 6-0, 165-pound, receiver and return specialist has worked his way up to 12 offers after turning in a standout junior campaign. White shinned in Clay-Chalkville’s offense pulling down 40 passes for 837 yards with 14 scores and covered another 121 yards on the ground. The one time a team kicked his way, he took the kickoff back to the house.

The play on the field and the All-State honors has college teams locked in on the dynamic plays White can bring to their roster. For insight on all the skills that are bringing scholarships his way, White stopped by the RNG Lab for a Q&A interview.

Interview

Marquarius, when you hit full speed on the field, are you going back in time or jumping into the future?

(Laughs) I am jumping into the future.

Seriously, how fast are you?

I have run a 4.37 in the 40.

Do you also compete in track?

Yes, sir.

Which events?

The 100, 4×1, and 200.

Which is your best event?

I don’t know yet, this is my first year running track.

I am excited to see how it goes for you.

Thank you.

You were torching 6A Alabama squads with your speed on offense and on special teams. Keeping with offense, what were some of the routes you were running during the 2020 season?

I was running posts, goes, and strings mostly. I was also in the backfield a lot.

In which ways did you see your overall talents improve as a receiving threat during your junior season?

I improved in my route running and I got faster. My catching too; I got better at catching.

Since the season ended, what have you been working on with your skillset?

Being more physical, my blocking, and working on my footwork. I am focused on improving my footwork and controlling my feet.

How have you worked to add more athleticism and agility to your talents?

For agility training I have been doing cone drills, ladder drills, and box jumps.

Have you been to any camps yet or are there any coming up you may attend?

I was just invited to the UA-Under Armour Camp.

Are you playing 7v7?

Yes, sir. I am paying with Cam Newton’s team.

You have a tournament of sorts this weekend against Cam Newton’s Georgia squad, are you excited for that showdown?

Yes.

Are you going to do any polite trash talking?

I don’t like to talk trash a lot.

Good deal. College programs are loving what they are seeing in you. Let’s update the programs that are showing interest.

I am receiving interest from Clemson and Vanderbilt.

How many offers do you have?

I have 12 offers.

*White has 13 offers picking up one from Tulane after the interview

Nice. Which programs were the last couple to offer you?

West Virginia, Wake Forest, and Liberty.

White’s Offer Sheet: Alabama-Birmingham, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Kansas, Liberty, Louisville, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Troy, Tulane, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and Western Kentucky

When visits are allowed again, are there any programs you’d like to go see?

Yes, sir. All of them, all the ones that have offered.

Marquarius, it was great getting to know the talent behind all of the explosive plays for the Cougars. Wishing you success with your 7×7, camp, and track season until we talk again.

Thank you, sir.
