Terian Williams II was one of those freshman sensations during the 2018 season getting it done on both sides of the field. Williams not only impressed with his athletic talent, but he earned it the hard way going after it in one of the hardest divisions in the nation – Georgia 7A. Playing both quarterback and cornerback, Williams’ upside brought in eight offers before the 2019 season began: Florida, Florida State, Howard, Illinois State, Kentucky, Rutgers, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

His Parkview squad is 5-1, ranked No. 10 in-state (MaxPreps), and he is once again supplying his gifts on both sides of the ball starting first at corner but now filling in at safety due to injury. On defense, he has racked up 24 stops, 14 solo, and has a team-high three interceptions capturing more recruiting interest along the way.

With much still on the line in the regular season, and the recruiting process heating up off the gridiron, I stopped in to talk to the Lilburn area talent for an update on all that is taking place.

Interview

Terian, the Panthers are one of the best teams in Georgia getting it done on both sides of the ball. What are you guys doing so well as a team leading to the four-game winning streak?

“We are trusting each other and working as a team. We have the athletes and the talent. We are working hard in the weight room and bringing physical play from practice to Friday nights.”

During the four-game win streak the defense has been very tough allowing just an average of 10 points per game. What is the strength of the Panthers’ defense this season?

“The strength of the team is having each other’s back. We are doing our jobs. We know the other guy next to us has their job taken care of on the field. Our linebacker corps is very strong, Kobe Wilson and Antonio Ward are getting after it. We have great defensive backs and our defensive line is putting pressure on the quarterback. On our defense, we are good all around.”

You are doing your part, of course, with a team-high three picks and a couple dozen tackles. Which areas of your game are showing the most growth on defense this season?

“The area showing the most growth is my ability to read routes. I am reading them as they develop at safety. I can read each route quickly. I can tell what is coming under me or next to me.”

How is the rotation between safety and corner working?

“At the beginning of the season I started at corner but we had an injury at safety. The coaches needed me at safety, so I moved back there.”

How are you developing your game on offense this year?

“I’m seeing my reads improving, especially going from first to second. I am using my feet to further the play.”

Which parts of your game are really coming along on that side of the ball?

“The strengths of my game on offense, my passing game is getting better. I know what I can do with my feet. I am working on moving the ball down the field.”

All games count in 7A Georgia football. The team has four games left, which ones are key games you guys need the fans in the stands for their support?

“With the rest of our games, they are all region games, all four are important. We will take each one-by-one as we try to win region.”

As we get closer to the end of the regular season, what goals are you wanting to accomplish?

“Before the regular season is over, I want to make plays and be a playmaker on the field in all three phases. That is all I really want to do.”

Closing out with recruiting. You have the eight offers, which schools are now showing interest?

“Notre Dame, Northwestern, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, and Georgia Tech are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head right now.”

Since we spoke last, have you taken any visits?

“Yes, sir. I have visited Virginia Tech.”

How did that visit go?

“It was a good visit. They are a really good academic school, especially in engineering. The coaches were great and the atmosphere was nice at Virginia Tech.”

Are there any trips coming up?

“Yes. I plan on visiting Duke, N.C. State, Kentucky, Florida, and Florida State.”

Terian, great catching up with you today. I wish you and the Panthers success the rest of the regular season.

“Thank you.”
