Although Deondrick Glass still has two years left to play at the high school level, seems like he has already accomplished a career’s worth of accolades and milestones. The lightning fast Katy High School tailback earned MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors in 2015 and followed that up with a 1,912 yard, 30-touchdown, performance in 2016. Nine schools have offered Glass but all the schools might be behind the proverbial 8-ball with LSU looming.
Glass (5-10, 186) quickly rose to four-star status on the recruiting trail after proving his worth against Texas 6A competitors. Tape from his 674 yard, 14-touchdown, 2015 season coupled with his sophomore season has led to nine offers to date. The schools seeking his talents in college includes Florida State, Arkansas, Duke, Washington, Purdue, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, Michigan, and Texas A&M. Squads like Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas, and Rutgers are showing interest but the SEC West juggernaut that is LSU firmly has Glass’ attention.
The Tigers hosted Glass for their annual spring football game on Saturday giving the rising star a glimpse of what football life is like in Baton Rouge. In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Glass on his way home to Katy to find out how the visit went.
Interview
Deondrick, who went with you on the visit to LSU?
“My mom, siblings, and my aunt.”
What all did you do while you were there?
“While we were at LSU, first we did the all group meeting and saw a video. Then I went to the meetings with the running backs before the scrimmage. After the scrimmage, we went around the campus and ate before we left.”
What all did you see during your tour of the campus and facilities?
“I walked around the weight room, saw all the trophies, and accolades they have won. They measured me.”
What did you measure out at and weigh in at then?
“197, 5-10.5.”
How did the visit go?
“I loved it. LSU has been my favorite college since I was little. I took a liking to LSU early in the visit. It stuck with me.”
With the coaches preparing for a spring game there might not have been much time for them to sit down with you, but did you get to talk to any of the coaches while you were there?
“Yes, sir. Their running backs coach, Coach (Tommie) Robinson talked to me. He said that he wants to offer me but I have to attend one of their camps this summer.”
Did they talk about how you would fit into their scheme?
“All he really said is that he has been watching and likes the way I run. He wants to see me at LSU.”
What did your family think about LSU?
“My mom and my brothers liked LSU. My mom liked it, she liked the stadium. Odell Beckham (New York Giants wide receiver) was there too.”
What did you think of the scrimmage?
“It was good. Derrius (Guice) was running strong. It started raining at one point and forced everyone inside.” (White team won 26-7 over the Purple)
Do you see yourself fitting in with the team’s offense or defense?
“Definitely. They have a running offense.”
Do you any other visits scheduled coming up?
“None now, but I plan on visiting some over the summer.”
Any new or strong interest coming in for you?
“Ole Miss and LSU recently – and Georgia. Texas is showing a lot of interest. I must go to LSU’s camp first this summer to get that offer.”
Are you still on nine offers?
“Yes, sir.”
Anything else exciting going on for you?
“No. I’m just happy I got to see my favorite school.”
Deondrick, thanks for your time today and congrats on a successful visit to LSU.
“Thank you.”
