The world of football is filled with players who have God given abilities and/or size that instantly makes them a standout talent. But having size, speed, and athleticism does not mean the heart and passion for the game comes with the package. For Class of 2022 offensive tackle Andrew Chamblee, he appears to have it all with upside that could propel him to four-star recruiting status given the right opportunities.

If I were a running back in Maumelle High School’s backfield, I know one lineman I would want to run behind as often as possible, and that is wherever Chamblee is lining up. The 6-8, 300-pound, right tackle for the Hornets is a work in progress but is already showing quick feet, use of his arms locking out and pushing away defenders, and is finishing plays as he develops that need nasty streak. After a freshman season on Maumelle’s junior varsity roster, Chamblee is getting his first taste of 5A Arkansas varsity action and is excelling in the process. A six-clip reel of Chamblee’s play has already brought in an offer from Virginia Tech. Expect more offers to roll in as the season goes on for the central Arkansas talent.

In an RNG exclusive interview, I sat down with one of the Natural State’s most promising recruits in the 2022 class to learn more about his overall game.

Interview

Andrew, the Hornets have come out hot with wins over Pea Ridge and Vilonia to start the schedule. How is the team looking overall?

“We are looking pretty good. I think we could go 10-0 and go to the playoffs.”

How did you prepare over the offseason for the 2019 grind on offense?

“I worked with Elite 100 here in Arkansas. I got in the weight room a lot and did a lot of work on the field more. I did all the basic stuff to prepare for the season.”

What style of offense are you guys running?

“We like to run an RPO (run-pass offense). We like to run-first, but we do throw a lot. But we can run the ball.”

Which aspects of the game are you dominating on offense?

“My kick step, my down blocks are something I do well, and I am good at going to the second level getting to the linebackers.”

What are you working on as the season goes on as an offensive lineman?

“I am working on my footwork, my hip flexibility – I want to play lower; I know I can play lower.”

Did you get a chance to go to any college camps this summer?

“I did. I went to a UCA (Central Arkansas) camp.”

What did you learn at that camp that is helping you this season?

“I learned to play with a wider base. I learned to always play wider and I learned to always make sure you sit in the chair, do not lean forward. Defensive players love it when you lean.”

Have any schools responded to your play with an offer yet?

“Yes, sir. I have an offer from Virginia Tech.”

Nice. Which schools are showing interest?

“Arkansas, Texas, Oregon, Michigan, and Kentucky.”

Are you planning on visiting any programs this fall?

“For this Saturday, Arkansas has invited me to their game (San Jose State). Hopefully I can go to that game. Virginia Tech has invited me for a visit. Hopefully I can go to Virginia Tech later in the season.”

What has you excited about the opportunity to visit Arkansas on Saturday?

“This will be my first visit. I have never been to a college that big before. I am excited to meet the coaches, players, and to have a good time.”

Back to football. What goals have you set for yourself for the 2019 season?

“I want us to get into the playoffs and win. Other than that, I want to get stronger, faster, improve my hip flexibility, and keep up the grades.”

All very good goals. There are a few exciting games left on the schedule for you guys. I know Pulaski Academy (PA) is one of them. What are some of the other big games are you hyped for this season?

“White Hall, PA of course, and Little Rock Christian.”

Andrew, it was great getting time in with you today. I appreciate it and wish you and the Hornets success this season.

“Thank you.”
