Airline High School, located in Bossier City, started the 2015 season on fire as the Vikings won their first seven games of the season but then the wheels fell off and they lost their final four games including a nail biter to Ponchatoula at home, 21-17, in the first round of the state playoffs.
This year the Vikings look to pick up where they left off, making even more progress as a team. One key to Airline’s success last year was the play of their defense that gave up just 17.8 points per game on average. This year, one of the returning starters, senior defensive back D’Kameron White, will look to lead this unit and keep the trend of locking down opponents going.
In 2015, White had a great season racking up 37 total tackles, six pass break-ups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
The Class of 2017 prospect already has two college offers and is receiving interest from other schools. The 5’10”, 185 pound, defensive back has already set personal goals for his senior season and is looking to put on an even bigger performance in 2016.
White also works hard in the classroom where he has a 2.83 GPA and plans to study mechanical engineering in college.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with D’Kameron to talk about his career at Airline High School and his recruiting process.
Interview
D’Kameron, what are your thoughts on the 2015 season?
“I honestly feel that last season was a good year for us. We made a lot of progress as a team, especially our underclass men, and earned a ton of respect in our district but we didn’t finish very well. We lost too many close games that we could have won easily.”
What are your thoughts on your individual performance?
“For me, I feel like I had a really good season. I could have made more turnovers, but I’m definitely happy with how I performed. I learned how to be a better leader through my actions on the field. I also came to understand my team’s strengths and weaknesses which I think will help me be a better performer this season.”
What are your stats from last year?
“Thirty-seven total tackles, six pass break-ups, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.”
Did you receive any individual honors?
“Second team All-District.”
What camps have you been too?
“A LSU mega camp, University of Arkansas-Monticello, and a Northwestern State camp.”
Who do you have offers from right now?
“Louisiana College and Arkansas-Monticello.”
Are there any other schools showing you interest?
“Southeastern.”
How are you preparing for your senior season?
“Working out and conditioning harder and harder every day. I’m building a stronger relationship with my brothers. I’ve been spending more time studying film as well. I think it’s very important to be a student of the game and learn my opposition’s tendencies. I’m earning my coaches trust. That is an important thing for me and my extra effort will help me accomplish this.”
How does Airline look going into the 2016 season?
“We are stronger, faster and more determined than before. The culture, since I’ve been at Airline, has changed. We push each other to be and perform to the best of our abilities. Our coaches know what they are doing and we trust their philosophy. I expect us to go further than Airline has ever gone before. I’m getting pumped just thinking about it.”
Have you set any personal or team goals for the upcoming season?
“First team All-District, first team All-State, 10-0 record, and a state championship.”
What game on the schedule are you most looking forward to playing?
“I look forward to all of them! I think every game counts and it really doesn’t matter who I line up against. I’m going to play my game regardless. I’m taking everything and giving nothing this year.”
What is your fastest 40 yard dash time?
“4.54”
What is your current GPA?
“2.83.”
What do you want to study in college?
“Mechanical Engineering.”
Thank you for your time.
“Thank you sir.”
