Brunswick School in Greenwich (CT) had a great season in 2015 as the Bruins finished 8-2 defeating Milton Academy (19-15) in the 2015 Sean Brennan New England Championship Bowl. One of the keys to the Bruins successful campaign was the play of their lockdown defense, which only allowed opponents to score 18.9 points a game.

Good news for Bruins fans is that one of the leaders on the defensive unit, defensive back Cameron Kelly, is returning for his senior season.

Kelly had a strong junior season as he posted 29 total tackles, 10 deflections, and four interceptions. After the season he was named All-League for his work. The 5’10”, 170 pound, playmaker uses his play-making abilities and strong football IQ to disrupt opposing offenses as he consistently comes up with big plays in the secondary.

The Class of 2017 recruit is currently drawing interest from several college programs including Villanova, Harvard, and Yale.

Kelly is not only a hard worker on the football field but also works hard in the classroom where he has 3.0 GPA and a SAT score 1220.

In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Cameron to talk about his high school career and his recruiting process.

Interview

First off, Cameron, what are your thoughts on the 2015 season?

“The 2015 season was really good. The injury bug hit us late but we fought through it and still found ways to win. Every man stepped up on the team.”

What are your thoughts on your individual performance last season?

“My individual performance was great in my opinion. I feel like I have established myself as a true lockdown corner. Everywhere position I played I made plays whether I was in at slot receiver, return man, or defensive back.”

What are your stats from last season?

“Four interceptions, 10 deflections and 29 total tackles.”

Did you receive any individual honors after the season?

“All-League.”

What are your strengths on the football field?

“I’m a cover corner but my biggest strength is my play making skills and my IQ. I put myself in the position to make game altering plays. When I’m on the field I truly believe I am the smartest player on field QB included. Because I am a true student of the game, I have learned the QB position. So it makes my job a lot easier when I know what the wide receiver is running and what the QB is going to be looking for.”

Did you go to any camps this summer?

“I went to 14 camps this summer.”

Do you have any offers?

“No offers yet but hopefully they’ll come soon.”

What other schools are showing you interest?

“Lafayette, Williams & Mary, Holy Cross, Bentley, Villanova, Harvard, Yale, Bucknell, Stonybrook, and Towson.”

How are you preparing for the 2016 season?

“4:30 in the morning workouts and later doing technique and footwork drills, and a little bit of Xbox. That’s how I prepare for the season.”

How does your team look going into the new season?

“We look very strong, we have a lot of returning players. Our offense is loaded. Our defense is looking strong. I think we are going to be a powerhouse team.”

What game on the schedule are you most looking forward to playing?

“The game I’m looking forward to is the Salisbury game. It’s homecoming, we are rivals, they got the better of us last year and we want revenge.

What are your team and personal goals for the new season?

“Team goal is to go undefeated and win the championship. We’ve been extremely close to achieving that the past three years. This year’s goal remains the same.”

What is your fastest 40 yard dash time?

“My fastest 40 recorded was during a workout at 4.53 and fastest at a camp 4.65.”

What is your GPA?

“GPA is 3.0 with a SAT 1220.”

Thank you for your time and good luck this season.

“Thank you sir.”
