When Los Angeles Valley College (3-1) head coach/defensive coordinator Robert Tucker picked up defensive back Eric Jenkins, he got a great recruit. The 5’10”, 180 pound, athlete was an All-Conference selection as a freshman after getting five interceptions along with 27 tackles.
Colleges loved what they saw in the multi-dimensional athlete. The New Orleans native (McMain High School) can play corner, safety, or stop the run and cover the pass in the nickel. Jenkins has multiple offers with schools like Fresno State, UTEP, Central Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana all extending offers. Jenkins committed to Cincinnati on July 20 and plans to enroll at UC after the Christmas break.
As one might expect, opposing California JUCO offensive coordinators do not test Jenkins too often but when they do he makes them pay. He already has three pass breakups, one interception, 2.5 tackles for a loss, and nine tackles on the season.
In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Eric before the Monarchs’ big game against the Antelope Valley Marauders to go over his season so far and get a recruiting update.
