St. Francis High School turned in a season to remember in 2017 making a run to the title knocking off Grace Brethren 22-13 for the trophy. One of the key players for the Lancers defense was Class of 2019 cornerback Justin Sinclair. The 5-10, 165-pound, emerging talent earned West Catholic All-League honorable mention honors and a three-star ranking drawing the recruiting spotlight his way. With an offer on the table from San Jose State, other Division-I programs are taking notice. In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down for a quick one-on-one interview to learn more about the Lancers’ corner.

Interview

Justin, how did your junior season on the field play out?

“It was fun. I played well. I made a lot of plays. I got some recognition for what I did.”

Was there a receiver or quarterback last season that challenged you, if so, how did that challenge help improve your game?

“Serra’s Luke Bottari (quarterback) and Chris Park and Patrick Nunn (receivers). That game helped me improve my overall game. After the game, I watched film to see what I did wrong and right. I could see the type of players I will go against at the next level.”

Of all the games played, which game was your best?

“My best game… I’d say SI game (St. Ignatius – S an Francisco). I had a lot of pass breakups. The Bellarmine (College Prep) game was a good one too.”

What are you working on this offseason?

“I am working on getting bigger, stronger, and faster. I am working on my overall game and technique.”

Where all might we see you on the field in 2018?

“I will stay at corner, but I might play some receiver next year.”

Have you attended any camps or combines this spring?

“I went to the Nike Opening in Santa Clara.”

How did that camp go for you?

“It went great. I had a lot of pass breakups. There were no catches on me and I had some picks.”

Are you playing 7v7 ball this spring?

“I am. I am playing with Team Express. We just finished up a tournament. We have a lot of athletes on our team. We are doing well right now.”

How is that helping you push your game forward?

“It is helping me a lot. We have a good coach. He helps me with my footwork and technique.”

Heading into recruiting. Which schools are showing interest in you?

“I am receiving interest from Colorado and Air Force.”

Which visits have you taken so far?

“Last summer I went to UNLV. I have also visited Nevada and San Jose State – I visit there often, and I have been to Sacramento State as well.”

Do you have any planned visits set?

“No. This summer I will check out local schools like Stanford, Cal, and Washington.”

Are you eyeing any college camps for this summer?

“Yeah. I’m looking at Cal, UCLA again, and I want to attend camps at Washington, Washington State, and Stanford. I want to attend as many Pac-12 camps as I can to get my name out there.”

Are you playing any other sports for St. Francis?

“Lacrosse.”

How is that going?

“It is going well. I have three goals this season. I like it a lot.”

Is there one goal you want to accomplish before the 2018 season begins?

“Keep my GPA above a 3.5 and get stronger.”

At the end of your senior year, what goals will you have accomplished?

“I will have accomplished all of those goals. During the season, I am going for a pick per game. I will do my best to get that. I like to compete, I will do whatever we can to get to a state championship.”

Justin, thanks for your time today and good luck with the rest of your offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
