In an RNG exclusive interview, I was able to talk with Bycznski about his season, the growing recruiting prospects and what he will be focusing on this offseason.

Interview

Jared, what are some things you and your team did this year to better yourself this season?

“During offseason this past year, we focused a lot on flexibility. After every workout, and every weight and conditioning session, we would go back in the weight room and work on knees, hips and ankle flexibility. I think it helped us a lot with effectiveness up front as a unit.

“For me, I strived to understand each position of the offensive line so that at any moment if someone goes down, I can be ready and put in the position other than left tackle. In the first two years of high school I really focused on my vertical pass set. This year we went away from that to focus on as a traditional pass block team. This helped me out a huge amount being able to do both of those things at the same time this season. I also improved a lot on screens this season. I was able to more easily run out in space for a huge block creating huge gain.”

What were the strengths of your team?

“Our strength of the team was the offense and the receiving core. We were giving our QB more time to make his reads allowing him to be a more successful QB.”

What does your school and workout look like every week?

“On Mondays, I go to Polaris which is a career center where I am learning construction traits, and the rest of the week I’m at the high school. Once class concludes, I walk over to our football facility where I’ll typically do a quick lift. After weights, I’ll meet with trainers, get taped up and then get suited up for practice.”

What is the locker room atmosphere from week to week as well as on gameday?

“The locker room life is all friendly. We all have a great bond. On days when we have games, as soon as we have our team meeting, we have to focus up and settle down for Friday night.”

What would you say is your signature craft on the field?

Being able to move out in space, especially this year. That has been something I have been very confident with. If a defensive end decides to go on a wide 9 and wide C, I like to focus on the blind side of him so that he would be able to move in the front side of pocket.”

What has been your biggest improvement from last year to this year?

“My biggest improvement has been moving out in space. I believe that is something not a lot of offensive linemen this heavy can do. I have succeeded at that and showed I can handle that.”

What recent visits have you taken?

“I have gone out to Kentucky for the Kentucky verses Georgia game and I went on visits to Pitt and Toledo for games.”

Is there anything in particular you are focusing on this offseason?

“I will be working on my footwork and speed. Last season, I gained a little weight from last year which had some toll on me a little bit. I am working a lot on being able to move better in this bigger body. That will be my focus. I want to be more comfortable with the weight and positioning myself better.”

In the classroom, what are some of your favorite classes?

“I love math! Maybe because it has a tie into the construction business of work, but that’s a subject I really enjoy.”

What is one talent or unique thing that you can do that most people don’t know that you have?

“I really like working with my hands on with a lot of stuff. I’ll work on cars or build something for the family. Most recently, I just built a small coffee table for our living room.”

Jared, thanks for your time today and good luck with your offseason workouts.

“Thank you.”
