Last season West Monroe High School had a great season as the Rebels finished 11-1 but suffered a heartbreaking upset in the second round of the playoffs to Ponchatoula (28-21). One key to their success in 2015 was the play of their lockdown defense which only gave up 15.5 points a game on average.
In 2016, the Rebels returned several key leaders to their defensive unit including junior linebacker John Bailey Gullatt and have only surrendered 14 points a game through the first four weeks of the season and have a record of 2-1-1.
Gullatt had a monster sophomore campaign in 2015 racking up 134 total tackles including eight for a loss, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions. After the season he received several individual honors including second team All-State.
The 6’0”, 225 pound, playmaker uses his great instincts and block shedding skills to make plays all over the football field as he has 51 total tackles with four of those for a loss through West Monroe’s first three games of the season including 23 of those coming against John Curtis at the Battle on the Border event in Shreveport on Sept. 9.
The class of 2018 recruit has already been on several college visits, has one college offer from Northwestern State, and is currently drawing interest from several other schools.
Gullatt is not only a star on the field but also works hard in the classroom where he currently has 4.0 GPA.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with John to discuss his career at West Monroe and his recruiting process.
