Iowa Class of 2016 OG Jake Heinrich “Calls the Hogs”
As families across the nation settled in for 4th of July celebrations Razorback Nation had something a little extra to celebrate on Saturday when 3-star offensive guard Jake Heinrich “Called the Hogs.”
The 6’4”, 285 pound, Urbandale High School star had a tough choice to make after being considered a longtime lean towards nearby Iowa State. The Cyclones had made Heinrich a top priority over the years but a June 6 visit to Fayetteville along with a growing relationship with Arkansas offensive line coach Sam Pittman appeared to seal the deal.
The Hogs landed Heinrich over offers from Iowa State, Oregon, UNLV, Cal, Kansas State, Louisville, Illinois, Eastern Michigan, Florida Atlantic, Marshall and Duke.
The announcement was made via Twitter with Heinrich writing, “It’s official, I am verbally committed to the University of Arkansas! Happy 4th! #Blessed #WooPig #BeUnCommon.”
Heinrich is a strong run blocker using his bench press that hovers around the 400 pound mark and squat max that is approaching 600 pounds to clear holes for his running backs. He displays the toughness and grittiness in an offensive lineman that Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema and Coach Pittman have brought to campus in their first three recruiting classes.
The Razorbacks now have 11 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class. Heinrich is the second offensive lineman joining Texas native Kellen Diesch.
