Iowa Lands 2017 Texas QB Peyton Mansell

Iowa added recruit No. 10 to the 2017 class in desired Texas dual-threat quarterback Peyton Mansell on Monday.
Mansell started getting serious next level looks after guiding Belton High School to the 6A playoffs during his junior season. The 6’2”, 189 pound, gunslinger connected on 138 of 231 pass attempts for 1,708 yards with 20 touchdowns tossed against just three turnovers. On the ground, Mansell added 661 or 789 yards, depending on the reporting stat line, off 113 carries with 10 more scores.
The Hawkeyes got in the recruiting game on Mansell late but made up enough ground quickly to secure his commitment. Iowa offered on May 30 leading to his visit to campus on June 17. The next day Mansell visited Minnesota and two days later added himself to Iowa’s class.
Mansell posted his commitment on Twitter reading, “Excited to say I’m committing to the University of Iowa. #swarm17 #ANF #FroshBTeam.” The post was accompanied with a statement:
Other reported offers for Mansell included San Diego State, North Texas, Florida Atlantic, Dartmouth, Abilene Christian, Coastal Carolina, Columbia, Harvard, North Dakota State, New Mexico, and New Mexico State.
The Hawkeyes now have 10 verbal commitments to their 2017 class. Mansell is the second recruit to commit in the month of June joining defensive end Coy Kirkpatrick.
