Iowa State continued their impressive ways on the recruiting trail pulling in Class of 2018 defensive back/running back Josh Madison Wednesday night. The Cyclones snuck the all-around athlete out of California and away from Pac-12 and Mountain West Conference suitors becoming the twelfth commit to ISU’s recruiting class.
The recruiting buzz for Madison began during the 2016 season seeing the 5-11, 205 pound, talent fill multiple roles for Newbury Park High School. Madison was a standout on defense compiling 75 tackles, 52 solo, with three tackles for a loss, five passes broken up, a forced fumble and three picks through stats posted for nine games. On offense, Madison carried the rock 43 times for 304 yards with four scores. He even got to test out his arm completing 4-of-7 passes for 58 yards with a touchdown toss.
The Panthers are off to a 1-0 start to the 2017 season with Madison picking up where he left off as a do-everything talent on the field. Madison rushed nine times for 64 yards with two touchdowns and caught one pass for 46 yards and flipped the field for three tackles and a pick on defense in a 55-34 win over Pacifica (Oxnard), Newbury Park’s opening game of the 2017 season.
Madison, a consensus three-star recruit, had eight reported offers to choose from with Iowa State winning out over Utah, Colorado State, Hawaii, Wyoming, Utah State, San Jose State, and Nevada. ISU head coach Matt Campbell and recruiting coordinator Alex Golesh now have 12 commits to the 2018 class from eight different states, an impressive feat for any program. Madison is the third California commit added to the 2018 class joining quarterback Re-al Mitchell and kicker Corey Dunn.
Madison has a reported official visit date to Ames set for Oct. 14 to see the Cyclones take on the Kansas Jayhawks.
