Overview
The Golden Eagles had an outstanding season in 2014 earning 13 victories that cumulated in a Kansas 5A State Championship title. In the championship game, Bishop Carroll blew out St. Thomas Aquinas 39-7 despite trailing 7-6 at halftime.
After the season, the Golden Eagles lost 34 seniors including their offensive star, Denzel Goolsby, who is now at Kansas State. The good news for Golden Eagles fan is that they return 33 seniors, including star linebacker Will Honas, from last year and have the talent to make another run at the state championship that would be their third title in four years.
Bishop Carroll has a key game when they travel to Wichita East on Sept. 11 to face Clemson defensive end commit Xavier Kelly and the Aces.
Offense
Bishop Carroll scored 52.4 points a game in 2014 but they lost several offensive leaders including quarterback Colton Howell. It is now Jake Allen’s turn to lead this explosive offense. The 6’3″, 195 pound, sign-caller played well at the junior varsity level and will have his eyes set on having a monster senior season.
Junior Adam Theis will be the new running back to replace Goolsby. Another offensive weapon will be Ty Seyfert (5’10”,160). Seyfert, a senior, will share carries with Theis and will also play wide receiver. Senior Noah Johnson (6’2″, 275) will be the leader of the offensive line. Johnson has one FCS offer (Liberty) and was selected first-team All-Metro in his junior season.
Defense
The Golden Eagles only gave up a whopping 65 total points last season which was an average of 5 points a game in 2014. Bishop Carroll only returns three defensive starters for the 2015 season including star linebacker Will Honas (6’2″,225). The senior had 87 tackles in his junior season including 33 tackles for a loss. Honas is currently drawing interest from several Division-I schools including Kansas State and Missouri.
A key contributor on the defensive line will be junior Christopher Dugan. The only other returning defensive leader will be senior cornerback Evan Nichols (5’11”, 175). Nichols was named first-team All-League in his junior season. The Golden Eagles will rely on these leaders in order to put on another defensive show in 2015.
