Devon White has had an interesting high school career. After spending the first three years at Joe T. Robinson High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, where his team won the 4A state championship a year ago, the defensive standout has brought talents to Eudora High School in Eudora, Kansas. The 5’11”, 185-pound, impact player spends most of his time at the outside linebacker but has also been featured at cornerback on defense and fullback and slot receiver on the offensive side of the ball.
This Class of 2021 recruit doesn’t have any offers yet but it’s only a matter of time before he starts to reel them in as he’s currently garnering interest from several schools including Ottawa University and Friends University. White is not only a hard worker on the field as he plays anywhere the coaches ask but is featured on the track team and has a 3.7-3.8 GPA in the classroom.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Devon to talk about his high school career, his senior season at Eudora and get an update on his recruiting process.
Interview
Devon, how would you grade your individual performance so far in your senior season and why?
If I had to grade myself right now, I’d give myself probably a B-plus, because there’s been times when I’ve had to face adversity and challenges throughout my senior season but that just makes the season more fun.
What are your strengths on the football field?
My strengths on the field would definitely be on defense. When anything comes my way I tackle it head on.
What has been the most memorable moment in your high school career?
The most memorable moment in my high school career would definitely be last year when I went to Joe T. Robinson in Little Rock, Arkansas, and we were the 4A State Champions. It will definitely be something I will never forget.
How many positions do you play on the Cardinals?
Since I’ve been here playing for the Cardinals the coaches have found a really good fit for me at outside linebacker on defense. I also played a little bit of cornerback for the first few games.
What kind of defensive scheme does Eudora run?
On our defense, we run a 3-4 scheme and we love to run man.
How do your skills translate to this scheme?
I’d say my skills translate really well with this scheme because of my speed and strength. It makes it easy to help make plays.
How do your skills translate to Eudora’s offensive scheme?
For our flex-bone scheme, my skills translate well because of my size and speed. I am able to play running back, fullback or slot receiver.
What is your fastest 40-yard dash time?
My fastest 40-yard dash time is a 4.56.
What area of your game have you seen the most improvement since the start of the season?
I think the most important thing for my game that I’ve noticed would be being tougher when it comes to taking on multiple blocks or being able to work on my defensive skills when I was at corner.
Is there a current NFL player that you try to model your game after?
Someone I try to model and try to mirror would be someone like Von Miller.
Do you have any college offers?
As of now, I don’t have any offers but should be receiving some soon.
Are you receiving interest from any schools at this time?
I’m getting interest from Hutchinson Community College, Butler Community College, Ottawa University, Friends University, and Highland Community College.
Do you play any other sports in high school?
I also run track.
What is your favorite subject in school and why?
In school my favorite subject would probably be English, because I’ve just been able to understand anything the teachers give us and not have a hard time with it.
Who has had the biggest impact on your football career and why?
My dad has had a big impact on my football career because he always wanted to see me succeed in something I’m good at. Now that he is seeing the progress going in the direction it’s supposed to, I know I’ve made him proud.
What do you like most about playing at Eudora?
What I like most about playing in Eudora is the size of the school and the competition. I’ve grown up mostly in small types of schools, so I’ve adapted to it. But moving to Eudora and seeing the competition just makes it even more fun.
What game left on the schedule are you most looking forward to playing?
The game I’m looking forward to is our game against Paola. My teammates have expressed how competitive the team is and I’m ready to face the challenge head on and hopefully come home with a win.
What are your goals for the rest of your senior season?
The goals I’ve set for myself for the rest of my senior year is not just try to find a place where I can go to play football but to also keep my grades up and excel inside and outside the classroom.
What is your GPA?
I’ve been working with a 3.7/3.8 GPA and should be at my goal to get it at 4.0 for my senior year.
Thank you for your time and good luck the rest of your senior season.
Thank you, sir.
