St. Thomas Aquinas High School, located in Overland Park just outside of Kansas City, is always one of the best programs in the state of Kansas. The Saints once again made a deep run in the 5A state playoffs but unfortunately fell short to Mill Valley (34-31) in overtime in the semifinals. Year after year this school sends some of the best players in the area to college teams all over the country. The next rising star ready to make his mark at the collegiate level is wide receiver Evan Kammerer.
As a receiver, Kammerer (5-10, 170) uses his great hands, route running and athleticism to go up and snag passes despite defenders all over him. Kammerer also has tremendous speed which he utilizes in the return game.
The Class of 2022 prospect is receiving interest from colleges of all levels including South Dakota State and North Dakota State. Kammerer’s future is already bright with two seasons left St. Thomas Aquinas as he continues to work on his craft.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I sat down with Evan to discuss his recruiting process and his career at St. Thomas Aquinas.
Interview
Evan, what are your thoughts on the 2019 season?
“We came up just short of making it to the 5A state championship game. I think everyone on our team could’ve brought a little more including myself. We shouldn’t have had the mindset that we were going to just show up and win every game.”
How would you describe your individual performance last year?
“I think my route running, hands and speed were great but sometimes my mind wasn’t there. I have some little things to work on.”
What are your strengths on the football field?
“My route running, hands and speed, but I think there is always room for improvement.”
What was your most memorable moment?
“My first-time starting varsity in Week 1 against Blue Valley. We won 48-19. They were a very good team but we just showed up and wanted it more.”
Are there any colleges showing you interest?
“I don’t have any offers yet, but I’ve been in contact with many coaches and schools. I’ve been in contact with Emporia State, Benedictine, Oklahoma Wesleyan, Washburn, South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Missouri Western State.”
What are you working on the most this offseason?
“I am working on every part of my game, especially my speed and strength.”
What do you like most about playing wide receiver?
“I just love it when you lose the corner on a route and on toss up throws when you get a chance to beat someone to the ball. Everything about this position is thrilling to me.”
Is there a current football player that you try to model your game after?
“I take things from a lot of players but mostly I like Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham is just a fluid route runner with very good hands and can make the most of his yards after catch as well. “
What is your GPA?
“3.7.”
Do you have a favorite quote?
““Everybody wants to eat, but not everybody wants to hunt” and “It’s okay to live a life that others don’t understand.””
Thank you for your time.
“Thank you, sir.”
