Sophomore linebacker Pharrell Adams had a breakout season in 2023 as the young phenom racked up 110 total tackles including 18 for a loss with six sacks and one interception for the Aces of Wichita East High School. Adams was a key part of a defensive unit that gave up 16.3 points per game and helped the Aces finish the season, 8-3.
The 6’0”, 210 pound, playmaker attended two college camps over the summer and is currently receiving interest from numerous big-time college programs including Kansas State, Missouri, and Arkansas.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with Pharrell to talk about his recruiting process and get an inside look at his preparations for the 2024 season.
Interview
After reflecting during the offseason, what are your thoughts on your sophomore season?
I know I had a great year as a sophomore but the ultimate of winning a state championship was not accomplished by me and my team.
How would you describe your style of play?
I’m fast and aggressive.
What are your strengths on the football field?
My strength is engaging in blocks and getting off them, and I play fast from sideline to sideline.
What kind of defensive scheme does your team run?
My school runs a 4-3 scheme.
How do your skills fit into this scheme?
I’m able to play free, roam around, and make plays without the linemen touching me.
Is there a current or former NFL linebacker that you try to model your game after?
Fred Warner and Nick Bolton.
What did you work on the most over the summer to improve your game?
I ran a lot so I could be faster to the ball and more explosive. I want to get that motor ready for the season so I can play fast and hard all game.
Did you attend college camps over the offseason?
I went to a camp at the University of Arkansas and the University of Missouri, and I was able to tour the facilities at both schools.
Are you receiving interest from any colleges?
Yes, I’m receiving interest from Arkansas, Arkansas State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Florida State, Notre Dame, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Miami of Ohio, Western Michigan, Missouri, Boston College, Indiana, Iowa State, Tulane, Wake Forest, Troy, Wyoming, and Oklahoma State.
What are your expectations going into your junior season?
I want to lead my team to an undefeated record and make the Top 11 this upcoming season.
What game on the 2024 schedule are you most looking forward to playing?
Wichita Northwest is the big game on the schedule that I’m looking forward to the most, and every college scout should be looking forward to it as well.
Do you play any other sports in high school? If so what position?
I’m on the powerlifting team and track team.
Who is your role model and why?
My dad, because he tells me the ins and outs of football including what I have to work on the most to make it to the highest level of college football.
Do you have a favorite quote or Bible verse?
Romans 8:18; “The pain that you’ve been feeling can’t compare to the joy that is coming”.
What is your GPA?
3.0.
Thank you for your time and good luck this season.
Thank you, sir.
