The skills in the pocket mixed with great potential have already landed Cole Presswood a Division-I offer. The 14-year-old mixed it up at the middle school level in 2024 and will get a chance to further impress scouts at college summer camps and this fall with McCracken County High School (Paducah, KY).

Preparing for his future role with the Mustangs after a year at IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL), Presswood was sharpening the skills.

“I was mainly running an RPO (run-pass option), and we did a Spread offense,” Presswood said. “We did a lot with our pass game, but we were RPO about 60 percent of the time. Our routes were quick game, I was throwing slants, but we did take some deep shots.”

The strengths to the game at quarterback were listed, “My accuracy, my feeling in the pocket, good pocket presence, knowing where to go with the ball, and getting the ball out fast.”

Pushing those skills forward in the offseason, Presswood is getting help from a well-known QB coach.

“I am work on my mechanics,” Presswood stated. “I tweaked something and now I am trying to fix it. It was my arm angle on throwing. I’ve been doing a lot of long toss to help the arm strength. I have also been working on my timing with others and training down in Texas with Jeff Christensen.”

The first offer was dropped over the summer by Murray State.

“It was very exciting,” Presswood shared. “It was shocking. I wasn’t expecting it. It was really good knowing I finally got one.”

Presswood continued, “I was throwing really well at one of their camps; we are an hour away. We drove up there, I threw well, their head coach (Jody Wright) met with me, and I got an offer.”

Louisiana Tech, Virginia Tech, and South Alabama are among the programs scouting Presswood. Other teams got him on campus during the college football season.

“We went on a lot of visits,” Presswood said. “We went to Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia State, that was a good one, and Missouri.”

The opportunities being around major college football programs were not lost on Presswood.

“It shows you how big you have to be,” Presswood stated. “Seeing them on TV, he looks big but in person they are really big. It also shows what it takes to be on the field. There are so many on the sidelines, but only 11 on the field; you have to fight to be one of the 11.”

With his 7-on-7 team National Playmakers Academy, a trip to Coral Gables is in the works.

“We are talking about going to Miami in two weeks,” Presswood stated.

Asked about the chance to see the Hurricanes’ program up close, Presswood replied, “Miami is in a good area, and they finished in the top 15 in the rankings. I like their coaches.”

Going against 6A Kentucky competition in 2024, the Mustangs had a high scoring offense putting 429 total points on the board.
