Hawkins also possesses tremendous catching ability, blocking ability, and a high football IQ.
Two college football offers have been dropped for the Class of 2022 recruit while drawing interest from Ivy League Schools along with teams like Kentucky and Louisville. Hawkins is not only a hard worker on the football field but also in the classroom where he currently holds a 3.55 GPA.
As his team is approaching the playoffs, I was able to sit down with Michael to talk about his junior season and get an update on his recruiting process.

Interview
What has been your most memorable moment during your junior season at Somerset?
I had two nice catches in one of our big district games. We lost but we should see that opponent again.
What is one area of your game that you’ve seen the most improvement in since the start of the regular season?
My blocking, but I’m still working on it. It was hard to work on it during the offseason. It was much easier to work on catching and route running.
What college offers do you have at this time?
I just have offers from Vanderbilt and Army at this time.
What other schools are showing you interest?
I have a lot of interest from Ivy League schools plus Virginia, Kentucky, Louisville, Northwestern, UCLA, Coastal Carolina, and Miami of Ohio.
What kind of offensive does Somerset run?
We run a balanced offense. I try to lockdown the middle of the field and I’m split out about half the time.
How do your skills fit in this offense?
I bring a balance to our weapons on the perimeter by holding linebackers in the box. I show toughness as I’m always willing to block.
How would you describe what kind of player you are?
I’m balanced, tough but smooth. I’m very skilled with a high football IQ.
How would you describe what kind of teammate you are?
I’m just one of the guys, very unselfish. I want the best for our team, my teammates, and then me in that order. I also try to stay humble despite the college interest.
What is your mindset knowing the playoffs are right around the corner?
Get prepared, button up any mistakes, and know it can be over at any time. We have a week off before the playoffs kick off so we get to prepare.
What is your current GPA?
Right now, it’s 3.55.
Thank you for your time and good luck in the playoffs.
Thank you, sir.
