After a high school career in the state of New Jersey slinging it for Union (Union) and Malcolm Shabazz High School (Newark), Miles Kobe McEachin matriculated to Liberty. A year under former head coach Hugh Freeze (Auburn) and the last two under head coach Jamey Chadwell and offensive coordinator Willy Korn, McEachin (6-0, 200) is hitting the transfer portal. Some lucky team is about to get a dual threat dying to showcase the skills.
The Flames’ scheme executed was explained by McEachin, “We were running a Pistol Triple Option. We work midline triple option concepts and take advantage of the defense with play action. We utilize the quick game, use play action pass, and we were able to take advantage of defenses toward our triple option.”
As the leader of the offense, McEachin shared his strengths in the pocket, “I’d say recognizing defenses. At Liberty, I really got into the playbook. I studied the playbook. Understanding defenses, knowing our scheme, and knowing our goal, that allowed me to better run the offense.
“My strength is moving the ball down the field and producing scoring drives. I led with my IQ, then my athleticism. My game is polished. My footwork, my drops, and my quickness of it all are strengths. I play the game with high tempo. My football IQ, my polished footwork, and playing with a high tempo are all strengths.”
Asked about his style of play, McEachin replied, “I’m a dual threat, but I am a passer. When people hear dual threat, they think running quarterback. But I grew up as a passer, and then I developed as a dual threat when I got older. It is my nature to get the ball downfield. One-two-three, if it is not there then I go. Up tempo and playing quick is my style. I ultimately try to get the ball downfield and take big shots.”
Carrying a 3.4 GPA with a concentration in Electrical Engineering, the academic side to the college experience is important to the former Class of 2022 talent.
“I am definitely looking for playing time, NIL opportunities, and at the academics,” McEachin said. “Academics, course degree, completion of degree, and how many credits will transfer; academics are important to me. Those are the top three. If they have my degree concentration, that is really important.”
McEachin has let his intentions of entering the transfer portal be known, and college programs have responded.
“Vanderbilt, Boston College, North Texas, Kent State, Miami-Ohio, UCF, Delaware, Rutgers, South Alabama, and EKU are showing interest,” McEachin stated. “Georgia might be; one of their recruiting assistants followed me.”
McEachin has two to play two but plans to petition the NCAA for additional eligibility.
