Holding 30 offers with his pick of blueblood programs to choose from, Marcelles Williams (6-0, 180) has held strong with USC since his commitment on June 18. There are suitors out there wanting the four-star corner, but Williams is locked in with the Trojans and helping recruit other standouts.
Perfecting his craft at national powerhouse St. John Bosco, the Class of 2024 talent is ready for the next level.
“We didn’t finish the way we wanted, but it was a great experience,” Williams said. “I gave it my all. This was my last season to play with my boys; I created memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. But now I am ready to move onto the next chapter.”
Before beginning his collegiate career this spring, Marcelles is receiving older brother defensive back tips from Max (USC) and Macen (ASU).
“They tell me this spring will be the hardest,” Williams shared. “They said you are thrown into the fire, but after that you adjust. They are telling me to keep working and to just be myself. I have to be me, and I have to show who I am. Showing effort is a big thing.”
With the excitement leading up to the Early Signing Period, there are still teams letting Williams know he is wanted.
“There were some reaching out, but I would have to contact them… Washington, LSU, and Oklahoma,” Williams stated. “I am locked in for sure. I am locked in.”
Changes are coming to USC’s coaching staff, but Williams maintains his faith in head coach Lincoln Riley.
“Lincoln Riley, that’s my guy,” Williams shared. “He just did a home visit a couple of days ago. Coach (D’Anton) Lynn (DC), he is a new him from. I spent time with him during my official. He talked with both my parents. They went to dinner, they got to know each other on a different level. I’m not sure where the staff will end up with the position coaches, but I am locked in no matter what.”
The Trojans welcomed Williams to campus over the weekend, helping further build that rapport.
“It was good,” Williams said. “I watched practice. Marquis (Gallegos) was there, Xavier Jordan; there are always people there. Isaiah Rubin was there. There were a few people taking their official visits when I was there.
“I saw coach Lynn again; we chopped it up. It was good seeing him. It is great building that bond with him. Building that bond, that will be instrumental for my success at USC.”
Keeping his cards close to his chest, Williams talked about USC’s ongoing recruitment in the ’24 class.
“Right now, I am trying to get some people to USC,” Williams stated. “I am pretty sure the fans will be excited; I am positive we will get some.”
