There is no other way to accurately describe Los Angeles Valley College linebacker Jonathan Charles other than to call him a linebacker’s linebacker. The 6’2”, 240 pound, sophomore is one of the highest rated junior college linebackers in the nation with several top college programs showing interest in his services at the next level.
The Sherman Oaks area native has missed some field time after a questionable targeting penalty but has put together a stat line of 11 tackles, 2.0 tackles for a loss, and two passes defended in the three games played. One thing to note about LA Valley’s defense, the squad is loaded with talent and head coach Robert Tucker does a great job of rotating his players in and out keeping his defensive unit fresh for crunch time in the fourth quarter. Showing Charles’ impact on the Monarchs, he is one of the team captains.
Charles has several Division-I programs showing interest in him including Utah, Washington State, Texas-San Antonio, Alabama-Birmingham, Fresno State, Montana, Houston, Kansas State, and Alabama. All the programs interested in the tough as nails inside linebacker will enjoy seeing Charles drop back into coverage to breakup passes, pressure the quarterback, stop the run, and even cover on kickoffs being a gunner downfield to the side of the field where the ball is going.
